Hey is anyone familiar with the company Farmers Fridge? I can across the recently and have been doing some digging on it. What are your thoughts on this vending machine that dispenses salads, sandwiches, and other goods that are very fresh.

Fastlane?

I know they were not profitable for a while, and I'm not sure now. There really isn't any competition( bad thing or good?). I love the idea of it!

However running a system like that has a lot of working parts, which is good for the barrier to entry, but I know there are a lot of variables to deal with when you have a vending machine business model that needs to be constantly refilled and monitored, and repaired.

What are your thoughts on this?

I don't know much about the vending machine business but the concept of ones with healthy offerings is awesome. Vending machine food is crap.

That is awesome. The only risk is not having fast enough turnover on inventory and losing money to spoiled food. So as long as the turnover is rapid enough, seems very profitable.

I think it's a great idea, particularly in cities and around college campuses. Quality is going to be the key. The vending machines will have to be refrigerated cases that are ideally located away from direct sunlight and will have to be serviced every 2-3 days.

I think you could easily sell fresh fruit for $1 and health meals like a salad for $5 (maybe more). Accepting credit cards and electronic payment may help to widen the niche.

Consider partnering with local farms to supply organic produce. Vegan items may also be profitable.

Is it fast lane? I think it could be an on ramp. It may be possible to develop the business into something worth licensing or liquidating. Developing a vending machine that is suitable for this purpose may be a worthwhile idea. The only thing that comes to mind is the old sandwich dispensers or ice cream bars from 70s.

This company sells the salads for around $8, and ya you would have to have a constant amount of people buying the product. The hardest part i feel would be building the system, and software for it. Along with the licensing and bla bla bla. The funding for this is not a bootstrap business by any means, and the potential to scale quickly idk

I think the concept is excellent. I've been a fan of vending machines for a long time. They are almost like houses where you collect rent every month. My favorite story of vending machine success is from a real estate auctioneer who used to own every vending machine in Wyoming. He had to specialize his truck because the quarters weighed too much to haul them around.

I really like the idea of the rfid fridges that you can find at some office buildings. Were you can open a fridge and pull something out and actually look at it and whatever is taken out gets charged to your account
