Hi. I feel like it's appropriate to reintroduce myself after some years.
Here's my story:
Back in march 2019 when I was a young and enthusiastic 25 year old, I started my first business (perhaps calling it a side hustle is more accurate) while working at a large bank in my country (I still work there sadly). The business was simple yet very profitable but it violated at least three commandments of CENTS, deep down I kinda knew that the business was not gonna last. F*ck it, I'll just say it, my business was importing and selling minoxidil Kirkland on the internet lol.
That simple business gave me a little taste of what entrepreneurship was about. I started the business with 200 bucks and before I knew it I was placing $10.000 orders worth of product and that inventory would typically last only 2 to 3 weeks. I was killing it, some months I would be making 3 times my salary. Back then, I thought "hmm, It shouldn't be so hard to make a 10k profit a month business". My little business was making me between 2k and 3,5k a month, quite impressive for a side hustle especially in my country where the salaries suck.
I learned so many things. I had to learn copywriting (I really sucked), fb ads (really powerful IMO), negotiation (most of my sales were bulk sales to other resellers across the country) and a few other skills like time management and logistics.
The business died two years ago when Customs decided that my product needed special permits as it was considered a medicine rather than a cosmetic (I was importing it as a cosmetic all along lol). I lost two shipments worth$12k and the business was over. I tried everything to get Costco to provide me with documentation to register it according to law and get the permits needed but they just wouldn't do it.
I had no CONTROL, the business was never SCALABLE (customs would just take away my stuff) and it had LOW BARRIERS TO ENTRY (at some point it became a war price but I was okay with it cause I was playing the volume game).
Not only I lost a lot of money in that business but I was idiotic enough to "invest" in the stock market since August 2020. There went another 8k down the toilet and a few more years of wasted time and energy researching stocks and making bad investments. A few weeks ago I liquidated my whole portfolio cause I had enough.
Oh wait, there's more. Since I was making decent money with my "business" I got a $17k loan to buy a new car. I carried that debt for 3 and a half years and just recently paid it off cause I felt it was holding me back. I really hated that monthly payment.
I'm almost 30 now with only $15k in my bank account and a fully paid car. I have no business, lost 2 years of my life and I F*cking hate my job and would probably hate any other job). I'm trying to rebuild myself, the dream is not gone, I have to convince myself that it was just a detour and that I can still make it, but how? CENTS and stop action faking. I swear to god my I'm not ignoring the CENTS commandments ever again.
That's my life story. Hopefully in a few years, it will be a part of a beautiful fastlane story.
