Choosing a domain .net or .org which is best?

I've just finished the MVP version of my website and am ready to register my domain.
Unfortunately, someone has purchased the .com domain and are asking for a price I simply can't afford to pay at this stage.
So that leaves me with .net or .org for the time being. Are there any web gurus who can tell me what's the better option of the two?
Thanks,
Leigh

Neither really in an ideal world, but .net is a bit better considering .org is often used with non profits.

What about .io .co or something similar? Or change the domain?

Names and domains really aren't as important as you might think in terms of a company being successful.

.io is trending now compared to .com and .net
Catchy names are simply easier to remember, nothing more.
Here are some cool use of the domain in naming:
Freebitco.in (free bitcoin)
ril.com (Reliance India Communications)

IMO, choose and buy a different .com domain. It's a de-facto standard domain name, it gets auto-appended when you press Ctrl+Enter in the URL line in your browser, and people are much more used to a .com domain.

Then, if your business is successful, it won't be a problem to buy the domain you originally wanted.

After all, facebook started with thefacebook.com, then bought facebook.com when they could afford it.

Neither. Last time i bought a .org domain, it was taken down for no reason. And that with a good host and privacy oriented registrar. Just buy .io or smth

It doesn't matter.
But it does somewhat.

If he rocks his .ORG business (and then later hears via his customers that they first visited .COM) then the price of the .COM will grow 10X fold. If he thinks it is expensive now, wait until the .COM owner finds out he's getting a ton of traffic from mis-typed domain entries ... a $500 domain suddenly will be $5,000 followed by "Look, we're getting 10,000 visitors a month who type in your name."

Mate, that's perfect!
Thanks.
