Hello everyone.
I'm 41yo and have been at the same IT job for almost 20 years. Little over 6 figure income, great benefits and pension. Govt work, so it's probably something I could continue to do until I'm old enough to retire.
Big problem though, I hate life now. The passion is no longer there and every minute I spend behind my desk seems like an eternity. Although I'm salary, I have to be there 8hrs a day, even though there really isn't 8hrs of work each day. I've become a clock watcher and it's driving me insane.
I'm a pretty intelligent guy, and a natural born problem solver (hence the IT work), but second guess myself out of every idea I have. Also, the safety net of a stable job is keeping me from lighting that fire to move forward on anything. With a family, it's unfortunately unrealistic to make major changes that would compromise our well being though.
There really isn't a question here, just venting. I'm done being unhappy. I can't stand the though of another 18 years of soul crushing office existence until I can (maybe) retire. I'd prefer to be paid for my effort, not my time. Not really sure where to start but I have three ideas I'd like to pursue, so I guess some research is now in order. With little to no capitol, it's going to be difficult.
I've read all the popular texts except TMF . I only ran across this forum and the book last week, so I plan on spending the weekend diving into it and hoping it will motivate me in a new way.
My goals in 2015 are fairly modest:
Read TMF and find a way to keep myself accountable to my goals of starting something on the side. I have a lot of good ideas, but am too lazy and content to act on them. I need to find a way to change that now.
Earn enough supplemental income to pay off my $22k of credit card debt. I own my own car and have no other obligations other than my mortgage.
Find some successful people to network with and learn from. My existing group of friends are mainly high school buddies who have no goals or ambitions other than making it through another payday.
Sorry for the log rant. I've had enough.
If anyone has any advice or opinions, please feel free to share.
