This kind of trade should only be there to satisfy speculative urge, never a bet the ship type of thing. Anything like the FDA approval process where each Phase I, Phase II, Phase III result is a phase-gate pass/fail type situation leads to very signficant chance of suddenly getting chopped in half (or more), or caught aboard a sinking ship, unless you are early enough to make it to the escape pod.

A historical example: this photo shows Capt. Deladier at her bloomberg terminal, before the tragic destruction of the USS Rodger Young CLSN ---

Federation intelligence failed us again. The selling pressure wasn't "random and light." As Capt. Deladier said in her last words: "Someone made a mistake. Someone made a big g*d*m mistake!"

Take your biotech play money and go to a casino. At least you can get a "free" room, "free" drinks, perhaps a dinner, VIP club access and maybe a nice vegas show comped. All Biotechs will give you is a "free" tax loss :)

PS. You know whats really risky about this kind of trade is that even if you use stop-losses, it still wouldn't have saved anyone.

This kind of thing is why I've thought about options, because of better opptys for setting up protection. But from what I've read, you should be a consistently good trader first, before you should even think about options. I don't know if that's true or not, but in any case I cannot get my head around what options traders are talking about 90% of the time.

Ach... compared to these speculative games, developing a value-creating and -delivering business would probably be better use of energy.

OK, so for a newbie about the market like me, what is going on? (please speak slowly and with small words. Thanks)

In slow words: ... hope ... you ... sold ... by ... time.

As far as I see the share dropped 80%, it might be a buy now as people tend to overreact on bad news. I earned some on Knight Capital by that way. After all I stick with MJ that gambling on the exchange is just that: a gamble. It shouldn't be your vehicle to get rich but it's useful when you are rich.

I don't know about that. I don't know if it's useful to gamble just because you can when you're rich. From what I've seen, truly rich people don't like to lose money even a little bit, and don't take it lightly. I would be concerned that this type of speculative urge is a sign of having a "poor person" mindset, even though steps can be taken to limit the damage.

Excuse my poor english. I didn't mean it's wise to gamble with your money just because you have it.

I'd rather wanted to say that betting on the exchange will only make you rich if you are lucky. And your financial plan shouldn't include luck IMO. On the other hand shares can be a useful thing to park liquidity or invest money you already have or you earn with a successful business etc.

Here's another stock that reminds me of this CLSN BS -- Ziop - ZioPharm ...

ZIOP: Summary for ZIOPHARM Oncology Inc- Yahoo! Finance

Currently at 4.64.

Might be a good play until they announce their phase 3 results at the end of March.

I wouldn't want to be holding during this during or after announcement, it could be CLSN Part 2.

CLSN btw went below $1 and a $9,000 investment would now be worth $1K.

LOL.

CLSN is now 90 cents.

The aforementioned stock, ZIOP is now 1.68.

When a friend texted me to say "get in" (in the mid 4's) I laughed, said NO WAY, and directed her to this thread. Playing these bio tech stocks is about as risky as betting black in roulette.

After ZIOPs free fall to the land of 1 buck, I got a text asking "How did you know?"

LOL. When you watch the games long enough, the probabilities start to become clear.

Thankfully she only lost several thousand, and not her retirement fund.

biotech sector is the ultimate INSIDERS info game. If you don't get the information first hand and make money illegally, you'll probably lose.

I still think about how I would get loaded at bars and give people "hot tips" about Viragen, an awesome biotech that I was into in the late 90's... they were developing an interferon-based drug that was literally hatched in the egg yolks of genetically modified Scottish chickens (I'm not kidding, at the Roslin Institute where they cloned Dolly the Sheep). Eventually VRGN got delisted and went into OTC:BB market, then finally liquidated and was given the honor by The Motley Fool of being one of the 10 worst performing stocks in the last decade.

disgusted-oh-god-why-text.png

I'm so glad I stoppped drinking.

PS. I think one of the worst things that can happen with this type of biotech speculation is if you actually hit a home run out of sheer luck your first time out... it can get you addicted. So if your friends get burned their first time out, that might be the best thing that could happen to them.

Be careful.

My mentor's bio-tech company was nearly wiped out by a promising trial drug called TC-5214.

Long story short, clinical trial results in America were not as promising as the Indian trials. When you have hundreds of millions of dollars on the line and decades of research just to fail trials 1 and 2 ...a lot of people lose money and jobs.

My mentor (one of the company's founders and former CEO) has moved to Denmark and started over.
