This is an odd one.
Okay so my friend graduated from a SUNY school 3 years ago. He supposedly had 2 unpaid parking tickets for 20 dollars each so 40 dollars total.
All that time has passed and this week he got a letter in the mail from a collection agency for 50 dollars (no explaination on the 25% increase) and the debtor is named as the SUNY school.
Can non-state non-town non-police tickets really negatively affect your credit score in the state of New York? When I went to school I graduated with some unpaid parking tickets and they said they could prevent graduation, but they never threatened to follow up with a collection agency for 40 dollars. What kind of world is this? So petty. At this point he does not know if he should bother replying to the collection agency as that might only let them know he is at that address still so they can target him futher.
Ideas, can anybody relate their story? He is pretty annoyed thinking he might have issues getting a loan at some point due to something so insignificant.
