Common excuse used for just about everything, but usually only a fallacy for not getting creative.

Here's a quick story of how I made $200 this morning (in about an hour) and got prime seats to a pro football game playing this weekend.. with no money and FOR FREE.

I contacted a ticket broker that was selling his bundle of tickets at a discount (10%). He had 10 pairs at $200 each face value, at a 10% discount. (So $200 below face). But he was ONLY interested in selling them all as a bundle.

Found 3 groups of people looking for multiple pairs of listings (craiglist is free, and a nice tool haha). They paid slightly over face value for consecutive seats in the same row. (Two of the groups were looking for an odd number of consecutive seats, which is hard to find... luckily I had 20 freaking consecutive seats LOL)

That left me with 1 pair of tickets, worth just under $200 (Direct center of the field, premium seating, and only a few rows up from the home team 'bench') and $200 in my pocket. I never handled the cash directly, simply connected buyer to seller.

Will be treating my mom to a day of sports and fun, everything will be free. One day I'll retire her with a house and money in the bank, but for now this is a decent start! hahaha

Note, I have no idea why it posted two seperate images of the same thing.. oh well!

Kid, you are going to make it. You just need to string your hard work ethic together for consistency, and you will outshine many people who lurk in the shadows here. Thanks for posting this.

Kid, you are going to make it.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Whenever you hear a billionaire/millionaire interviewed and they're asked about "how did you get started?", they always seem to have great "hustle stories" like Ryan's. Ryan simply isn't the type to ask for a $10K loan to start something, he'd just go out and earn it.

This is very true. Basically what it comes down to is that I'm 'comfortable'. And that's deadly, because there's no pressure to get things done.

I'm slated for an interview for a second job tomorrow morning (which I don't need.. at all). It would effectively double if not triple my salary.. but for what? I already live on only ~30% of my current income, if I get this second job it would just lead me to more comfort and routine.

I have to shake it up somehow, 'burn the boats' or whatever you may want to call it. I have over 6 months (8 months if I REALLY stretch it) worth of living expenses in my chequing account... how exactly does that create a sense of urgency to make me get out and stake my claim on the world? It doesn't.

And the crazy thing is a lot of the liquid cash I made in just 2 weeks or so... in fact I cleared over $2k in ONE NIGHT a few days ago.

To be 100% truthful I think I need to quit my job. I need to face some kind of adversity, sort of like 'if I don't succeed, I don't eat'. Right now I'm safe, moreso than most people. I could lose my job tomorrow and do absolutely nothing for half a year and it would have no effect on me whatsover.. but that's scary as hell (quitting my job). I've become almost trapped in that loop of the employee mentality.

In addition, I'm basically the only employee, and the owners have become close friends. That in itself is giving me pause.

I start university one year from now, and tuition is already taken care of... so that's yet another thing I don't have to fight for, I've already got it.

I'm trapped in a self imposed safety bubble.. and I need to pop the bastard.

$2k in one night on 2 separate occasions. One involved paying horses (staked players) to play poker at a casino during Stampede versus a bunch of drunk and rich out of town foreigners. I wouldn't consider that one a venture as it was one off LOL.

The second one was taking advantage of supply/demand imbalance with tickets for an event held in town. I bought all the tickets I could find, and then dumped them when the demand was high enough to allow me to inflate prices (not illegal where I live). That one was more repeatable (and I've done it before) but it's not something I'd consider long term or anything haha.

I almost wish I didn't have time, I have too much time on my hands unfortunately.

RichKid, you may not need money right now.. and maybe all your desires are already met, but think about all of the lives you can enrich, the people you can help, and the problems you can solve. With some consistency, like vigilante said you can go from $6k to $600k, then to 6mil, then 600mil. Just something to consider. One of the main reasons I'm planning on making large amounts of money is because the power it has to change the world outside of just myself

Ryan, it's all relative.

Right now you are comfortable an making great money vs what you have had/made in the past. In a couple of years, that money won't be enough to maintain that comfort or your wants will grow.

You said you were taking your mom to a game for free because you hustled the tix. Cool

Wouldn't it be cool if you could pay cash for a nicer house for her or hire her a housekeeper? Wouldn't it be cool if you could make enough money to pay you whenever you wanted so you could go anywhere, anytime.

You were supposed to be in Scottsdale this year to have drinks with us. Didn't see you? There is you another why.

Bust that bubble and come to Scottsdale.

This is so true! Actually got my heart racing reading your post! I felt a bit of that fire that comes and goes.

Semi related: I was up until 3am last night looking at flights to Phoenix oddly enough!

Only fitting to finish up this thread. Seats were phenomenal couldn't complain. The picture was taken before the start of the game, by the start the stadium was almost to capacity (about 27,000 attended, not quite NFL numbers, but impressive nonetheless).

My team got out to a 24-0 lead after the 1st quarter, then imploded and ended up losing. It was the largest comeback in CFL history... so I witnessed history, my team was on the wrong side of it unfortunately LOL.

There are so many ways to make money out there. Doesn't matter if you have money, if you don't, if you're rich or you're broke. Just try something out, take a risk, and you might discover something cool.

Very cool thread, and nice hustle.

RichKid,

I read through your entire "Hustler's Guide to Buying and Selling Anything" thread during the past 2 days. I don't know how much your situation has changed since those things were posted, but I can't help but relate to you. About the same age, living with parents, student, slowlane job, but most importantly- this flipping on the side as a means to fund future fastlane ventures.

Your advice has been very helpful, and I really wish I would have seen it a few months ago when I started flipping. It was also inspiring to see your progress and the ups and downs (I almost counted you out with that 100+ pairs of shoes problem- you seemed really depressed.)

Anyway, thank you for your continued contributions, threads like these. Reading them has taught me a lot. Best of luck to you, but you know better than anyone, it's a lot more about action than luck.
