I love David Meerman Scott’s 61-word explanation of social media marketing!! So true!
"You can buy attention (advertising)
You can beg for attention from the media (PR)
You can bug people one at a time to get attention (sales)

Or you can earn attention by creating something interesting and valuable and then publishing it online for free: a YouTube video, a blog, a research report, photos, a Twitter stream, an ebook, a Facebook page."

However, it's the added point about Building a community around that content, that is the ringer for me! In social media, so many people forget this part!!! And, I would venture to say that if social media outlets were the blood of the operation, personal connection and the community feel is the heart. The heart is what makes it all move! :)

I see a lot of clients write a ton of great content, create a steller social media campaign, and then forget to interact with their audience!!
It is so important to reply to EACH Retweet, blog comment, FB comment, etc ...ask if they have any questions, what they liked most etc.

Thank you for sharing this link! Good stuff! :)
