Human beings have always been naturally fascinated by great enterprises, great conquests, the great abilities of geniuses and talented men and women. They admire and yearn for the power to make great things happen, or to realize great ideas.

There is no doubt that this "thinking big" is the right attitude if you want to achieve something significant in life, but are we sure that this is the only direction to look towards?

Years ago I came across a simple yet effective concept, contained in a small book (The Bottleneck Rules, by Clark Ching) that then also entered the "101 Must-Read.." NO BEST SELLERS list of books in this forum and that over time I have studied and applied more deeply, verifying its validity.

In short, there are often small flaws in our tasks, processes, systems and tools, inefficiencies (not always hidden, in fact), gears that don't turn well and that would be relatively easy, cheap and quick to fix, often returning a considerable ROI.

Of course, with this "fine-tuning" you are not able to obtain WOW results, or make "quantum leaps", such as multiplying your profits 10X or managing to run an ultramarathon, but you can often obtain with a minimum of analysis and a little effort and time, percentage improvements of 2 or even 3 figures, in the luckiest cases.

Unless you have mechanisms that are already well-oiled and working perfectly, almost every personal and business area can be improved, initially, with a few small interventions, instead of necessarily and immediately requiring some "magic" solution, which however is not yet within our reach:
  • Getting lots of new leads in target with our business is a sacrosanct activity, but what do you say to starting by taking care of, investing in and giving value to the customers we already have?
  • Entering a new business, or getting a new big order, can be profitable and exciting, but wouldn't it better if we finalize (or trash) the previous "equally exciting" ideas and activities that involve us and that are stagnating because we can't follow them?
  • Finding the perfect and most suitable diet for us is cool, but if we start eliminating industrial foods and too many sweets we certainly can't go wrong.

To conclude, wanting to see everything from a different angle, the question I ask myself and you is:

Before trying to be brilliant, isn't it better to avoid being stupid and stop doing the usual bullshit (which we almost always know very well)?
