A guy becomes CIO of Starbucks six years after college and his former employer, business guru John Hagel believes that it's because he was a guild leader in World of Warcraft.
From what I understand from the article, guild leaders in WoW have to lead a large group in order to solve complex problems and move forward in the game, similar to a CEO having to manage a team. Can any WoW players shed any light on this? I don't play World of Warcraft myself so I don't know how accurate the article is in describing the real world managing skills you can learn from the game.
Makes you wonder if online MMORPG games are going to be included in resumes in the near future.
Employer: Describe any leadership experience you may have.
Applicant: Well I was a guild leader in World of Warcraft which shows I can manage a large group of people who don't know each other to work towards a shared goal.
Funny, but when it comes down to it, this could become a reality sooner than you think!
