Little "action item" that might help you. :)

About 6 months ago, I made a little resolution to myself that I was going to spend less time watching TV at night after work, and more time reading. See for YEARS, I have collected books on subjects I thought could help me on my quest towards the fastlane. Financial books, investing books, marketing books, "Sales" books, business books, entrepreneur autobiographies, books on leadership, Famous success stories, and many others. But having no central place for these books, I developed a bad habit over the years. These books ended up ALL over the house. On shelves in my spare bedroom, in my DVD case, in drawers, stuffed in boxes in my walk in closet, under the bed, on my kitchen counter, etc.

Well, I began to realize that many times, I would come home with the intention of reading a certain book for an hour or two (lately they have been business start-up books), but would often forget the idea when I came home as I just lacked the energy to look for it. (this often led to me spending more time than I should watching TV, which (as we all know) is a HUGE drain on your time when youre trying to make something of yourself!).

To make matters worse, I had two giant glass-door bookshelves in my living room! What were these cases (situated centrally in my living room only 8 feet from my couch!) filled with instead? DVD's, knicknacks, and alot of other crap which although might have looked nice, have done NOTHING to help me and only serve as distractions.

So...I decided to change that. :) One night when I came home, I began walking from room to room and rounding up as much of my book collection as I could find. Without much effort, I was able to round up DOZENS of them in less than an hour, and a few shelves in my bookshelf were restructured to accomodate them. Now, on the days when I come home from work and want to relax, I need only to stop at my bookcase on my way into the living room. And dozens of choices await me. :) Since I did that, I have BLASTED through my collection, and end up ordering at least a few new books every couple weeks.

My tip? If you are the type of person who likes to read and views books as valuable resources to continue your education, make sure they are ACCESSIBLE to you! You just might find yourself reading a little more often and finding time you never thought you had...instead of grabbing that TV remote and losing yourself in a new TV show. :smxB:

All the best,

Mike
