Hey everyone,
My name is Tyler, and I’ve been an avid reader of MJ's books. I've very recently joined the forum because I’m transitioning out of the building phase and stepping into the reality of operations, marketing, and scaling.
I’ve spent the last few months solo-architecting and coding a dual sided marketplace app for local labor.
The Need / The Problem: The local, peer-to-peer gig economy for physical labor is fragmented and lacks trust. If you need someone to help move a couch, do a specialized courier run, or clean up a yard on short notice, coordinating the cash and vetting the person is a massive friction point.
The Solution: The app is a two-sided, geo-spatial gig marketplace.
Because it’s a two-sided marketplace, I am staring down the barrel of the classic "chicken-and-egg" liquidity problem. I am here to learn from those of you who have been in the trenches of app management, user acquisition, and marketing. I want to learn how to seed initial local demand and structure my marketing spend efficiently.
I have an extensive background in corporate finance, FP&A, and IT. I'm looking forward to contributing to the group where I can from a finance/tech perspective, while soaking up the operational wisdom from the veterans here.
Thanks,
Tyler

The Solution: The app is a two-sided, geo-spatial gig marketplace.
- Demand: Posters create a gig with a set payout and pin it to the map.
- Supply: Workers set their active radius and minimum payout threshold, receiving push notifications when a matching gig drops.
- Trust: I built a manual-capture Stripe escrow flow. The poster's money is held the moment the gig is accepted, and only released when the job is marked complete. No haggling, no cash, no flaking.
- The tech stack is React Native (Expo), Supabase (PostgreSQL, edge functions for the geo-spatial matchmaking), and Stripe Connect.
- Row-Level Security, push notifications, and App Store compliance (reporting/blocking) are completely finished.
- I am currently forming my LLC and finalizing the legal infrastructure to deploy a highly localized Alpha test.
Because it’s a two-sided marketplace, I am staring down the barrel of the classic "chicken-and-egg" liquidity problem.
