I came across this music video, made by a band I really like (Massive Attack). The video clip was very interesting and... intriguing . I tried to interpret it from a viewpoint of an entrepreneur, and I think I've managed to figure out the intent of this artistic short-film, and what the original lyricist has meant to convey in his words.
Simply put - you can see a man running in the clip. Not just running... but running from something. He's running from a bunch of hostile people, and he's fleeing the entire clip.
Until he reaches a dead end and can run for his life no more.
Then he turns around... and he sees that everything he's so afraid of is just an illusion.
I'ts there, sure... but it's not.
He mistakenly thought that the things that he was so afraid of could've hurt him.
But only in the end, after he ran for so long, only after he can run no more, only after he reaches a point where he can escape from he's fears no more... he sees that that's all they are.
fears.
nothing more than ideas and stories we keep telling ourselves.
You can't touch fear, nor smell it, nor taste it. It's not real, but abstract. Fear in and of itself will not hurt us - it can not. It will not make us bleed.
There's an old saying: "The devil awaits only for those who fear him."
Fear will control you ONLY IF YOU LET IT.
You're job is to prevent that from happening.
If you watch the video which is excellent, the video is about fear and about facing and confronting fear. Fear does not exist - it only comes from within.
"She's on the dark side"
We all tend to think of fear as something negative, something dark.
"Neutralize
Every man in sight"
Fear neutralizes almost everyone. And I say "almost" because some of us overcome our fears.
I think that fear in some way, is life's barrier-of-entry to success.
If you're a coward, if you're too afraid of taking risks, you will never be successful.
And that's the job of fear - to keep the weak out. Only the strong and the brave will be successful.
"You are my angel
Come from way above"
Fear is like our omniscient teacher in some way.
It can "bring us love" if we choose the right path and do the right things.
Or it can "Neutralize" us if we choose to succumb and give up on our dreams.
I think that fear itself has a very special place in our lives. It forces us, it motivates us to do things.
Fear is one of the strongest compelling feelings in the entire range of human emotion.
In some way.. fear is like an angel. guarding us, making sure that we do the right things.
You can only run away from your problems for so long.
And the case with most people, is that they do the exact same thing.
The thing controlling most people lives is NOT PASSION, BUT FEAR.
Fear from being broke.
Fear from taking risks.
Fear from being great.
Fear from swimming against the current.
Fear from not doing what their told.
Fear from speaking up.
Fear from being different.
But the thing that saddens me the most ... is that they realise this only when it's too late, when their too old to do something different, when they no longer have the vigor and the vitality to be extraordinary. and yes, there is such a thing as "too late". You can't change you're life from your death-bed.
But don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that every aspect of our lives is being controlled by fear. I'm not saying that it's the only thing keeping us in line. That's not what I'm saying.
What I'm trying to convey is that you should embrace fear as a positive thing and use it for your own good.
Instead of running away from your problems, embrace them.
Dealing with reality will make you more powerful than trying to escape it.
Fear is good if you perceive it as good.
Fear is beneficial if you perceive it as beneficial.
Most people let their fears eat and control them - others channel their fears through their minds, pouring it back into the world, as something good and positive, as love, as VALUE.
Like the man in the clip, most of us are normal, at the beginning.
No one was born extraordinary. No one is born amazing or special.
It's our decisions which make us the people we are NOW.
For example:
We fear for our health, so we go to the gym.
We lift that 220 Lbs barbell. we run 3 miles every saturday. We eat healthy, as we should. Fear ( in some cases ) is what keeps us treating our body the proper way.
We fear for our financial security.
So we study business, financial literacy. We grind hours investing in our fastlane business.
We fear our children may not have a home, or a proper education. So we teach them, we mentor them, we guide them through their lives.
We fear we might miss LIVING, so we get up in the morning and go out and change the world.
Becoming successful is a road we must walk alone.
sure, we can ask mentors to guide us.
But they can only show us the door. It is us who must walk through it.
No one can do it for us but ourselves.
You are my angel
Come from way above
To bring me love
Her eyes
She's on the dark side
Neutralize
Every man in sight
To love you, love you, love you ...
You are my angel
Come from way above
To love you, love you, love you...
