Hello Guys,

I'm Jerry and rather green here in the Fastlane Forum. Actually I'm been lurking behind for a long time. And It's time to join.

Here I want to share an idea of mine and want you guys to give me some feed back if possible.

So I thought about this model of dropshipping within China. Since most of the Chinese people nowadays are superrich, why can't i just contact a factory in China and have them drop ship inside china mainland. This way i can avoid the long-a$$ shipping time and avoid the damage that might happen during the shipping.

So I do have control and scale. All I need to find out is the need.

Much appreciated for any feed back

I worked in a gift shop in Switzerland which targeted chinese people. They would spend up to 10 dollars for a stupid made in china bell which might cost only 50 cents.

And yes i went to an international school in Shanghai. Bilingual in both chinese and english

OK, but they were on vacation when they bought the stupid bell. Trying to sell that same stupid bell online on a Chinese website for $10 probably wouldn’t do the same.

I still don’t understand where you think you have market advantage selling Chinese products to people in China.

Of course i'm not trying to sell bells....I saw another market that might be a breakthrough...It's more of a service with associated products. That's my original idea.

And they don't have to know they are made in China...

1) While there are many new millionaires in China, saying that "most people in China are super rich" is naive and uninformed. The per capita GDP in China in 2016 was $8,123.18. For comparison, the US was $57,466.79. Would you describe everyone in the US as unfathomably wealthy?

2) The vast majority of Chinese who make online purchases (excluding luxury and legitimate brand-name goods) shop on Taobao, which is similar to eBay/AliExpress. Basically, factories sell directly on Taobao for very cheap. Where are you finding that things priced on Amazon are the same as they're priced in China?

You simply will not be able to buy a $0.50 knick-knack from a Chinese factory and then resell it on the Chinese market for $5.

You mention that you'll have control and scale. How exactly does dropshipping offer you control? You're selling the factory's products in their own country. What's to stop them from just selling direct to consumer and keeping that margin for themselves? You have very little control in a dropshipping arrangement.

Not trying to argue though, but why are you using the per capita GDP? What i wanted to say is that most of the people in China are really kind of rich now...Maybe it's my research direction. Ok my field is supplements. I find that some people are willing to spend up to 70 dollars a month or more on supplements.
Yes, that's one problem that i had actually given thoughts to. But I have relatives in China, maybe they ll do me a favour. Just a little more costs, if I have my relatives do it.
And Yes they are so many poor people who are earning 200 to 400 dollars a month, but they won't be my clients.
Yes, that's ture. There is TaoBao, DongJing, TianMao and so on. But that'd be the Ebay, Amazon here in Europe or US, No? You can still build your own web store and sell. I think.

However, I do find your points really good. I didn't write all these to argue with you. Actually, you just brought something really important to my attention - I focus to much on my "favoured branch or products" instead of considering the actual need and the social prosepctive.

Thanks man
