When it comes to launching an info product online (like a video course), there seems to be two main lines of thought on how you should price it.

Model 1 says to launch at one price (example: $499). Model 1 does also sometimes offer two payment options (example: $499 or 6 payments of $99).

Model 2 says to launch at three prices (example: $199, $299, & $499).

Model 2's logic is that with only one price, you're missing out on the customers who would come in at the bottom level as well as the one who would come in at the top level. In fact, the top level package, while fewer sales, will still actually boost the overall revenue due to price point.

It also helps you to employ the "predictably irrational" psychology which uses the package A, B, and C pricing to make package B look really good.

For a larger online course, which model do you think is best? Model 1 or Model 2?

I feel that model 2 would better suit the customers needs. Like you said, some people cannot afford a price of $499, or $600 in the span of 6 months and will stray away without giving it a thought.

The lower prices will attract the less wealthy individuals but your higher priced option has to have something much more valuable than the lower priced options so that you keep the higher priced option desirable to the more serious crowd.
