Hi, fastlaners.

Here's a recap of my story, why I'm here and where I'm aiming.

Back in 2008, the same year I began High School, I started learning about SEO and affiliate marketing. I also read about people traveling the world while making a living through their computers. To me, this was mind-blowing. I never knew that was an option and so from that day I started dreaming about traveling the world and working online. I start building affiliate sites and experimenting with everything I read.

I convince my girlfriend that traveling/making a living online is possible and she's in on the dream. My family not so much.

Five years pass and with just two months left in High School, my classmates and I are told to meet up at the student counselors office to talk about our future and apply for university.

At this stage, I've made a recurring income of around 600 USD/month. Not impressive and not enough to support my dream of traveling to Spain. However, I'm so convinced that my dreams will come true, that I decided to stay back in class while everyone else went to apply for university.

That day there was no way back. I had two months left and then I needed to earn a living to support myself, so I worked hard, 4-5 hours every day after school to grow my income.

With just one month left I realize that my income won't grow fast enough, but still determined to go to Spain, I start looking for marketing related jobs in Spain and luckily there's a British travel agency looking for a Danish marketing executive for their office in Spain.

I apply and later that day I get a rejection.

I suspect it's because I went to high on the question about my expected salary, so I apply again lowering the number a bit.

This time they want to move forward and set up an interview. Three days later there's an offer in my inbox and I'm officially headed to Spain after graduation.

Now, the job in Spain was only part of my dream and after having worked there for 6 months I'm sick and tired of the 9-5 and the slow-moving pace of corporate life where reporting is more important than growing the business...

My wife and I decide that it's time we give it a go on our own. At this point I have 5 years experience with SEO so why not give it a go as a consultant?

We move back to Denmark and being totally broke we have to move into my granddad's basement. We're given four months to get our business off the ground as he needs the apartment for his B&B business.

In those four months, I land two +1.000$/month clients and my wife starts an e-commerce store which enables us to move into an apartment of our own and actually make a decent living.

For the next 1,5 years we wake-up, work, eat, sleep & repeat every single day.

Until one day when we accidentally talk about our dreams of traveling the world and we realize that we're actually capable of doing that right now. We've just always put it on hold as relying on a few clients is risky, but so far I hadn't lost any clients and they were super happy to work with me, so why not take the change and go for the dream? She sold her e-commerce business and I told my clients that from now on I would be working online from around the world.

So we did and for 2,5 years we traveled the world, while working online 20-30 hours a month. It was a great lifestyle, but we got older and decided that now was the time to start a family and get ourselves a home base so we didn't have to live out of a suitcase any longer, which brings me forward to present time.

We're back in Denmark, been for more than a year and we've just had a beautiful daughter. I'm still working a few hours a month as a consultant while building up my next online-course business which I aim to finish within the next 6 months. At the moment I'm talking with, who I believe will be my ideal audience, to learn about their pain points and to figure out if and how I can help them solve their problems.

I aim to move permanently to Spain in 2020, being able to make a living off my new course-business so I don't have to work as a consultant anymore.

I've decided to join TheFastlaneForum after reading both books my MJ and reading some of the posts in here. I plan on sharing some of my progress along the way and I hope to meet like-minded people that I can connect with.

Awesome, thanks for sharing.

Pardon my ignorance, but could you clarify the difference between consultant and contractor? Is a consultant someone who's contract is just answering questions?

To be honest, I'm not sure if there's a difference.

I'm a "consultant" because that's what people in my industry are called. What it means to me is that I e.g. use my knowledge of on-page SEO to identify issues related to my client's website and I either guide them on how to fix the issues or I do it for them.

Could be called a freelancer as well, but in my industry, your not taking seriously if you're talking about yourself being a freelance marketer. In regards to marketers, the word "consultant" is the word that usually works best.

Some consultants are actually employed by a company (not always as owner, but as just another employee) Consulting companies offer their employees with specialist advice to companies, so an attorney or lawyer from an outside firm is a consultant, but they might not be a contractor or self employed.(are they a partner or not)

Of course all contractors are consultants by default, unless they are working on their own business, but the reverse is not true.
