I think it's a well known fact that most people who have cash pinch pennies.

Now, some of the most wealthy men in the world drive a car that the everyday person could drive, and live in fairly small estates.

Others have 5 exotics, a 10 million dollar home, 4 yachts and 11 helicopters.

When most of us get into this, we all think of how many houses we are gonna own, but when things start to progress... you realize that maybe one nice car will do just fine, and your house is big enough as it is.

What about you?

Also I heard a funny quote - Rich people aren't cheap. Cheap people are rich.

I just want enough passive income to satisfy my basic needs. After that point, if I feel it could be beneficial to build out more (and buy more crap), than I can decide on that when the time comes.

This is just a speech but after listening to an interview last night with Billgates on the Dutch Television those people that make to where he is and even the guy in China who owns Alibaba say there's a burden to having that much money. There comes a point when you have to much of it, and everyone comes at you for money.

Having a great aunt that had lots of money, I can tell you while she was alive she didn't flaunt it. She didn't have that many cars, helicopters, and yachts. She raced horses, invested her money, dressed nice, drove a nice car, and lived a nice home, but not a mansion or big estate. Her husband was killed by someone wanting to steal from them in front of her. There's been two death's in my family over money in that generation. I've watched people fight over money, hold grudges, and as I go down this path to find my way there hopefully, I will remember that it does have a dark side as well as a light side.

My family has been a mixture of the rich, slow lane, and side walk. What the difference is the mindset, the choices, and perhaps being the right place at the right time meeting the right people for the few that have achieved that wealth. Since all of them were dirt poor to begin with when they arrived and born in the United States. I have politicians in my family as well, and maybe not big one's as the white house or congress.

As in that video Billgate's wife says it matters where you're born, who your parent's are, and a bit of luck. I sat there listening to that word luck. Sure we say in this forum there is not luck. As he stated last night, he felt he was very lucky at certain times many times.

I"m not sure If I'll get there or not, but I do know that living a high maintenance life isn't going to grow my money. For some reason, I don't believe the smart millionaire's and billionaire's just go on a spending spree and buy just luxuries.

Even if you made your first million it would be gone in a matter of time if you didn't do something to make that money grow for you and to keep growing for you be investing versus spending.

I suppose I see the materialism is nice, but until you have a strong foundation financially and learn how to manage it, you're not going to be any different than the lottery winners that won a fortune and gave all their money away to help their friends and family, bought materialism, went on vacations, and found themselves dirt poor again once more because they didn't know how to handle their money.

So It's not my objective to do all this work and get there and than buy toys and be right back in the same place again.

When you have too much money you tend to spend a lot of time trying to manage it and taking various decisions. By choosing the most common car to drive and making easy choices life becomes less complicated.

Mark Zuckerburg wears the same t-shirt (same color and type) every day since he does not have to waste time thinking about what he is going to wear.

Some are modest, others aren't.

I took interest in it. That's the point.

The question here is not easy.
People have helicopters and planes just to move fast and on their own schedule.
They have yachts, but they are using them as investment. They don't have yachts just because it's nice to have a yacht. They do have them, because they are doing business there. However there is a question how long you need to wait do have a 100 milion dollar yacht to get back the investment lol.

But you can have one for 10 milions, and that can be quite fast to recover.

They are using them for they freedom, finding peace and holidays as well.

Now everybody have a need to live in a castle, with 100 people of maintaince of it, gardeners, cleaners, cookers, security, etc....

Some people have big houses, because they are giving them privacy. No neighbors looking through the window.

One of the richest man in Poland, owner of the second company in the world in roof window industry, is still living in his semi detached house among many other houses build on this estate/property (sorry, lack of English word, I mean the situation when you have like 30 houses build together by some investor and then sold to private people) which he bought when he was just a small local entrepreneur. He just don't need it and is investing his money in the company.

Mostly, the people who are living in the fancy houses and buying ferraris just only when they have the money, are the people who got rich by accident, but are not ready. You will see it by thei behaviour. Rich people don't spend money like a crazy on everything. I mean, really rich, who grown with proper ideas and money management knowledge.

Those fancy living, are behaving like monkey, in private, in companies, inside and outside. They behave, like they their 5 minutes in life, during which they need to prove everybody that they are poor idiots, and that they have money to have literally everything.

How to differentiate really rich from the fancy one rich idiot?
For me it's simple. Rich people aren't fancy. I mean, sur, they have rolls Royce's, big houses and etc.
but, what they buy, is one rolls Royce for ten years, not the new one rolls each year. They buy and wear 3-5 watches on different occasions, Pateks, Breugets, Chopards. etc. the fancy rich rather have some Rolex or other big fancy thing, of which the name is much more popular. New tv each year.
And so on so on.

Wise rich people, buy one solid thing and using it for years. Fancy stupid rich, are buying new lambo each year, becase after a year the one is old. The watch is old. This is the difference. And,the point is not a price bracket, because a Breugets watch costs far far more than some more popular like IWC or TAG Heuer, but in a way they are using it. What's a point on buying new car or new watch (write here any material thing you like) each year? There is no point. Rich people know it. The new rich, don't and will never understand it. They live to show other that they are rich, wise rich people live because rich people wear Patek Phillippes watches, often with one or two for the whole life.

They understand the value of money, so they don't spend them unnecessary. And, even if their watch cost 20 times more than the fancy living riches, in relation to their wealth that watch is still cheaper, and, they know that their money are for investing, and not for spending on shiny things.

You can, of course, change watch or car for whoever fancy shiny or useful thing you want.

Why do we need to talk about things like this, and say "oh you're only 'truly' rich if you do X+r(z), but otherwise you're not 'truly' rich" ?
Can't we just accept that people are different, and have their own way of doing things? Some people like cars, and some people don't really care. Some people like taking a yacht on the water, and some have no interest in it.

Or another example, some of you like waking up at 5 am. I hate waking up early with a passion. Does that mean I'm not productive and not a real entrepreneur? No, this is just how I like to do things.

Can someone just delete this thread? I really didn't think it was a dumb question but I have noticed that every thread I make gets shit on and I feel like an idiot afterwards. Literally, everytime the post with the most likes is asking why I even made the thread.

I truly try to generate an interesting discussion but it always fails so just delete my account while you're at it. I have nothing to contribute and I'm tired if being the F*cking village idiot.

Unfortunately, this one has been disliked by some.

But why do you focus on that one person or two that wrote the thread is pointless. Why don't you pay attention to the answers of the ones who replied to your topic. There are more of them :/

Personally, I would spend money to have a nice lifestyle. I will eat good, dress good, live in a house I like, go to the best hotels, best restaurants. Of course, I won't do any of this if i can't afford it, like most people do, but if i can afford it comfortably, I will. That's a lifestyle I enjoy.

When people say "oh this guy doesn't spend any of his money, that's cool" as if it was a virtue. I think it's plain stupid. If he/she wants to do that, then good for them. But it really doesn't make that person any better than somebody that likes spending his money reasonably.

It's not really about the spending, but more in the investments that makes your life fulfilled and internally happy. Many wealthy people have a lot of "stuffs" as a substitute to fill in their void of feeling not enough and unfulfilled. It's better and more worthwhile to honestly invest in projects that is going to help humanity lives to leap forward in greater futuristic innovation and technology, in improving and revolutionize human kind...or simply give it away...that's what I would do.
