Sup,
There are two parts to this post:
1. A non-technical cofounder has proposed me an idea which I worked on for 2-3 weeks, later blacklisted me and ran away with my code.
2. There is a useful project on delivering websites and marketing for companies in need of it. I have professional experience in building exactly these systems for others (I am a AI engineer at a company doing marketing for Amazon sellers, basically optimizing their GTM) and I'm looking for a cofounder.
---
So long story short:
- There was a Mr B. who reached out to me 2 months ago proposing me to cofound a business with him. His background was that he was selling ads to contractor businesses - so for people building extensions, kitchens and the rest. He had 2 employees and that he takes home 5-10K per month (said; I never checked but he did have some online presence).
- He knew my background (AI engineer at a marketing SaaS company)
- We've labored together for about a month, in total I've spent about 3 weeks doing this all my free time (say 150 hours total)... Then he said point he claims my product design sucks (yes, I'm not a designer and built the backend first), so I've given him access to redesign a few things with Claude. Few days later he blacklists me... after reaching out through other channels he says that something about not being optimistic enough and not quitting my job. Well, pfft.
Anyway, what were we after?
So, from his experience he explained me this:
- Marketing agencies, including media buyers still charge 2.5k+, often per month per client (he did)
- Many still can't deliver.
- Going to Facebook directly can be a waste of money.
- Even buying a website is fairly expensive for most.
1. What we did:
- Contractor enters their business name, we look them up in company registers (in UK, Companies House, in Ireland, Company Registration Office) or their Google Business registration,
- Dig all data that we can get about them
- Founding year,
- Their certifications,
- Their google reviews,
- images of their work,
- their business and founders' facebook accounts... which can be used to build their "About us"
- their past websites if any.
- Everything. About all of their public digital trail.
- And build a website for them. In about 60 seconds.
- They can pay to claim it right there, probably for 300$+50$/mo - for UK/Ireland prices.
2. What we planned for:
- Optimize their ads on google and facebook via algorithms (on my job, we know for a fact that Google, Facebook and Amazon prefer taking your money than delivering you results... E.g. things like knowingly advertising on keywords/mediums that could never be profitable for your business). He had the same story.
- Help them do a general operations day to day (CRMs, field service management, etc). A standard application like Jobber stripped down to needs of individual business owners. If they have special needs, they would be able to request it and the LLM would take a shot at vibe-coding it right there; in 10 minutes we may have a working application.
The idea was to build something like Replit/Lovable for contractors which would work better just for them. Because they have special needs and it's easier become dominant in a single industry due to network effects and software being reusable.
Which we built. In demos, one could do a website within a few minutes of an interview and about 90 seconds of the website being built (it's also quite good because - we used templates; in construction industry any website looks about similar so using templates is exactly acceptable. You can edit the website later in a website editor which I've built too)
I'm down to continue something like this. If you can bring knowledge and a desire to create a product; as well as a network of potential clients with it, I will execute on it as a engineer.
Interests: about anything profitable. Experience:
* Building reliable AI agents,
* Advancing business issues with big data,
* General good software practice,
* Robotics & embodied AI.
