I have a public furniture assembly business.
Companies send me the parts, I assemble the furniture, then I ship them back to them or to their customers.
Generally, I price a flat fee + fee/unit.
But voila. Assembling public furniture isn't enough. Some customers want me to make certain parts, some want me to paint the parts, some want me to source the parts, and some want also a furniture design service.
Some of it is made automatically by machines, some of it is made by me.
I don't know how to price any of it because of the value VS price principle.
Should I divide how much time each piece takes me to make and charge based on a my daily rate? Or should I charge more for additional service because it's an additional service?`What I see is that companies are quick to ask you to do everyting then cringe when you give them the quote. So far, I've either charged so much I got turned down right away, or so little that I became suspicious and the customers asked for proof of the factory floor, etc.
There's also heavy regulations and I need to write down everything I do so that it can be traced back if there's a problem. That's something that is done because where I live is heavily regulated but that also means this ensures higher quality.
How do I calculate the price of each activity not to be more expensive than the competition but also not to be too cheap that customers doubt of the quality of my service?
