Udemy is on the side of truth and justice in case you were wondering.

If this was the policy in human evolution, we still live by candlelight, and our main form of travel would still be horse and carriage.

Remember, the *consensus* also said telephones and automobiles were fads, and not to be seriously considered. Consensus thinkers also ridiculed early pioneers in medicine, folks like Semmelweis who now has a cognitive bias named after him for those who dared to question *consensus* thinking.

Nice on Udemy to make narrow-minded groupthink part of their TOS.

I already do something similar, and it's called the Unscripted Network and it is FREE, although I only send texts 2-3 times per week.

I thought this was a pretty interesting and eye opening video about where a company's real value is.

The really interesting part to me is that I always thought that a Chase mileage plus card was a credit card owned by United. By Chase is basically purchasing miles from United to give to its users. So these airlines are generating income on all the miles that we are awarded. Talk about a revenue stream! They get more revenue from selling miles than they do flying.

I believe that there needs to be professionalism from both sides of the parties. The person looking for the job isn't the only person being interviewed. Both the company and the person being interviewed are selling each other.

And in this day and age, if a listing doesn't display a salary range, I instantly skip it. Save both of us time and list your range. People are going to negotiate either way.

I get what you are saying. Only issue is that when I list a salary range, as employer, I am afraid I’ll lose applicants who should be paid more. I’m willing to pay more for the right candidate. For example, was looking for a person in the 100k to 120k range. A great but senior guy came through a recruiter, hired him for $225k. It’s a two way street. Don’t be an a**hole on either side.

2022 will be a hard year for finding good people. Tech helped with remote work. Pandemic forced people to learn to work remotely. Not all good people are willing to come back downtown. Yet some of our industries are booming, making labour shortages that much worse.

I'm flattered, but I'll keep giving them away for free on this forum. The real reward is getting to rant like a psycho and have people appreciate you for it.

What if in 2022 we stopped celebrating being busy as a measurement of importance?

The last 10 years I always post a little wise text on different social medias to wish everyone a happy NYE. This was also the plan this year.

Now I realize that I have nothing to write. This past year has distanced me so much from 95 % of the people I know. It's like the pandemic has split people into 2 different fractions. The ones that question things and are able to think critically, and the ones that just eats everything the media feeds them raw.

So for the first time in 10 years I will stay quiet on NYE (of course still wishing my closest family and friends a great NYE). It's crazy how much things have changed in 2 years. I used to think that I had a pretty good social circle. Now I believe 95 % of them are degenerates.

Happy new year to everyone in here at The Fastlane Forum. Knowing that people like you exist is one of the only reasons I am still having some faith left in the human race, haha.

I don't understand how this happens though. You hired the senior guy for a different position than the $120k job opening right? But he was applying for the $120k position and you found out he was qualified for a different position?

Correct. Instead of "manager" this hire was a "director".

But he was applying for the $120k position and you found out he was qualified for a different position?

No, not quite. The job description is not just tasks but a company vision and direction. You either buy into the vision of my company and "imagine" how you can bring real value here, or you don't. I am purposefully vague (until I see a resume and decide to meet, then it's a two-way street exploring if it's a fit).

I want applicant to commit to me first, and I promise that money won't stand in the way. We treat staff exceptionally well (high salaries, great benefits, profit sharing, growth opportunities) and have a reputation. It's verifiable (small industry, everyone knows each other and talks to each other). I feel that listing a salary range is just the wrong way of doing this. Maybe if we were 10x our size it would have to be different... or if our jobs were less fluid and more "here is a list, do that" well defined. Alas, that's not the case.

This is an interesting topic. Do you run an office? How do you do your hires?

I have 3 employees and 2 1099's in my company. If I'm out hiring for a position, I would think it would be rare for someone to come in for one 50k position and then be qualified for another 100k one. I would think that something was odd because the person would have been clearly overqualified for the first position but still willing to interview for it. To me it would be a red flag unless the person had a good reason behind it.

Yes, I find this analogous to sports fans sitting in the cheap bleachers heckling at the multimillionaires playing on the field.

Happy New Year!

Instead of postcard, here is a picture view from my home towards the mountains. What’s unusual is that we don’t get much snow over here, but this year we’ve had a lot. It’s a perfect time for snow.

Wishing you all great success in business in 2022, also health and joy. Let it be a great year for you. And yes, I mean you too! ;)

MJ - thanks for making this place and keeping it running. Cheers to MJ!

I can't believe what the world is coming to when I'm being turned down entrance for a pub unless I can show that I've been stabbed in the arm with god knows what with my "passport" and proof of negative result through the NHS app because apparently an official text message from them doesn't count? Finally got let in due to them not telling us this in advance when they should have. We booked the place from 9-2, the whole bar is open until 2 but they tell me and me alone that I need to be gone by 1 due to some policy, otherwise I'm not allowed in at all. What's all that about?

Anyway, happy new year everyone!

Happy new year!

Yes, natural gas is becoming a major export. The LNG industry is booming and plants are coming online and expanding.

Not sure how this plays out on Wall St but I see it where I’m at.

Thanks for a great year on the forum!

Holy cow. That Neuralink actually gave me goosebumps. What a life changing invention this could be for many people. Yet, it also scares the s*** out of me. I think we all know some people who would use it for alterier motives.

I don’t understand people who watch every movie, TV show, play every game, but don’t take any action on their own lives beyond the most basic. Or people who want to be good at something but do zero training, zero grinding, and think “talent” is key to everything
