Feedback for an Habit App

Anything considered a "hustle" and not necessarily a CENTS-based Fastlane

How about, we are a team of developers who are in the middle of building an App for the formation of habits, however we would like some feedback, here are the details of the app:

Issue:
We have noticed that several people have problems forming habits (which is elementary not only for entrepreneurs but for people seeking to achieve specific goals)

Solution:
We plan to create an App in which users share THE STEPS THAT led them to master a certain habit (what I call Habit Path)
For example:
Someone wants to reduce their hours playing video games, but he or she does not know how to do it, so they would go to the app and find something like this:

Steps to reduce hours in video games:
Duration 3 weeks:
- First phase - Decrease the hours
Duration: 3 Weeks
Instruct someone to hide the remote of your console one day a week
- Second Phase- Starting to take control
Duration: 3 weeks
Hide the control yourself, put it in a hard-to-reach place
Punishment if failed: Give 20 dollars to an acquaintance (example: brother, friend, etc)
....
This habit Path has been effective for 300 users
-------------
The point is to give the user an easier way to form habits based on the experiences of other users.
The app will also have some features such as statistics, rewards, punishment for breaking your habits, etc.
In short, we will be grateful for the suggestions that you can give us.

There's a bunch of academic research on this. How much have you used of that research? Can you advertise that you're using that expertise in your app?

we have a psychologist behind us, So we can create a way to show that technical information for credibility

having a psychologist behind you is really good.

What I see in this app is that each of the following is a lever that will not only make the app more effective, but will make your product successful financially. Each lever has a multiplicative effect on the outcome:

  • Marketing (convincing people that the app works, is authoritative, etc)
  • Having the basic psychology down
  • Making the app as simple and understandable as possible

If people aren't convinced going in by the marketing that the app works, the app won't work as well, even if everything else is good. Similarly if the first two are spot on, but the app is confusingly worded, it won't work. etc.

Interesting idea. Makes me thing of coach.me.

Question: Is the issue with building habits truly not knowing what to do? Or is it rather actually getting to do perform the tasks?

For most of the habits I failed to put in place, the issue wasn't so much knowing the steps or the progression. It was more on the reward part.

I knew what to do. It wasn't just rewarding enough for me to consistently do them.

maybe you failed in the Punishment, some people are more motivated with pain rather than rewards

Could you maybe add a chat function in which the users can talk amongst themselves and discuss solutions to problems they’ve had trying to master the same plan? Or connect to a discord community to discuss strategy?

Cool Cool I'm doing something similar but framing mine as more as an Accountability app rather than a Habit app, though they are similar in several respects. There's a post on the INSIDERS on IDE (Ideas Needing Execution) with some ideas on this. I've been testing out several apps.... "With Peers" is simple and cool, I'm testing "Kin" this month.
