Hi everyone, I have already read TMF as well as Unscripted .
I'm a professional Gymnast ( age 25)and I'm training Gymnastics since age 4. I have already represented my country Internationally but haven't yet won at the International level. I'm very close to winning a medal for my country and if I win, I would get approximately 100k from our Government .... But I will be famous as well in my country .
I am really passionate about Gymnastics and have been training since childhood ;
I have had multiple injuries and a knee surgery as well.
My problem is that after reading TMF , I think that my time and effort invested isn't going to become fastlane, as it will only increase my intrinsic value, but to a certain extent. My parents are supporting me currently and they are equally passionate about it, but I am confused that my time will be lost doing Gymnastics, instead should I start my own business, What should I do?

You are a businessperson already.

Why do you think Athletes get paid? Where do you think that money comes from?

Salary from professional team (from ticket sales) + brand deals and endorsements. And why is it that way?

You are an influencer. You are a personal brand.

Your goal should be to become as well known and popular as possible. Your primary goal (along with being the best gymnast) should be to get everyone talking about you.

As a high level gymnast, you have LEVERAGE. You are on the cusp of becoming famous. You need to use that to get as much attention and followers as you possibly can.

I would actually consider documenting your life and making it into a vlog. Similar to a reality TV show. You'll build a much larger audience and it will be easier since you have a unique life being a high level gymnast.

The most important thing in business is having people's attention. You can sell anything if you have millions watching and following you.

Feel free to start a business to make some money right now if you want, but I would still focus on building an audience while being a gymnast as it is the best option in my opinion.

Do you mean that I should start a YouTube Channel featuring my vlogs?

All sports and games are not equal in making money. Not all are commercialized to the same extend.

Tier 1: boxing, F1 and golf
Tier 2: Team sports ball games: football, soccer, basketball..

The rest do not make much money unless you are top few in the world.

Just put swimming for example, how many top swimmers can make from brand endorsement like Michael Phelps?

Gymnastic Olympiad medals. Good luck trying to compete with Chinese and Former Soviet Union region sportsmen who turned pro since age 5. Not an easy job.

I just do not think mixing passion with business/wealth goal is compatible. Professional sportsmen should be first driven by the passion in the game and not money. A professional businessman who put his business contingent on being top few in the world in a sports/game has too little control of his business development.

I think you have to decide that whether you want to be a businessman or a sportsman. There are many former sportsmen who hit a brick in their sports development and went on to become very successful in business after leaving their sports. After-all it a hell lot easier to make one million dollar then to be top five in the world in a particular sport.

Training video courses. Ebook as a email magnet, instagram as a source of traffic, your life as a social proof. Done.

Quite possibly. But I would more importantly start viewing yourself as an entertainer/personality. That's what athletes are anyways. Their whole value is in their fame and ability to put people in the seats to watch.

edit: also, now is your time to leverage the fact you're a high level athlete. You can get a business meeting with a high-level CEO who's a fan of gymnastics much easier right now than when your career is over. Squeeze the F*ck out of this opportunity.
