Yesterday after paying my rent and utilities I realized I only had $100 left in the bank.

Yikes. Thats a few meals worth of food. I dont even have a job, so no paycheck coming in either!

So I figure theres no better motivation to start hustling than this! I happen to be house sitting for my parents while they're away so I have access to a car(usually I just have a bike) So my plan is to sell a bunch of my old stuff off on ebay, do labor gigs on craigslist, and possibly buy and flip some stuff.

I started yesterday and I already made $205 selling stuff on ebay. I'm gonna keep this up and see how much money I can make hustling this month.

Total cash: $305

Are you flipping or just selling your stuff? Can you live cheaper to avoid rent?

What will you do when the stuff runs out?
Right now the plan is to do labor gigs, theres a lot of offers to help people move in my area. Also maybe flip stuff if I find a good deal.

Right now Im just selling my own stuff to raise some cash. Might try flipping once I have some money.
As for living expenses I've already got them as low as I can at the moment. I live off about 650-750 a month. Problem was that I was working on a product for the last few months and wasn't doing anything to earn money on the side so my savings got depleated, then I ended up canceling the project so I didnt even end up making money off it.

Learned my lesson though, im gonna actively keep up a side hustle from now on till my next buisness starts bringing in enough dough.

No shame in picking up a part time job.
Why drop your product project entirely? Cant you pick it up later?

Am planning on maybe picking up a part time job when I get back home. For now im house sitting at my parents place, so all I can really do atm is hustle.

As for my project it was way too ambitious for me to do with no experience and no money. It was a decent idea, but i just wasnt able to execute with my skills and resources

Managed to sell some more stuff on Ebay. Up to $500 total cash now. Got another $400 coming in as pay for house sitting.
Will be getting a job as soon as I'm done house sitting, two weeks to go till then. So gonna keep trying to hustle till then to see how much I can get saved up.

Definitely get some more income coming in ASAP! Your personal stuff will run out sooner than later if you're liquidating it and need to literally eat that money away.

On the plus side, your living expenses are fantastically low; if you get even a basic job producing a couple grand a month, you could live on $1,000 and save the other $1,000.

Keep hustling, and hopefully figure out a better long term solution to make sure you never get in that tight of a pinch again! Being dead broke is stressful as hell (ask me how I know...) and you can't make good decisions while living like that.

What I would do if I was flat broke:

  1. Use the internet to find a list of every company that sells high profit margin products/services B2B.
  2. Go down the list contacting every company and tell them you will work for them on a commission basis only as an outside sales rep. Be ready to sell them on doing this!
  3. Negotiate the commission you will get when you make a sale. You want to be making a higher commission than the companies other sales reps since you aren't getting paid anything upfront and no benefits.
  4. Start prospecting and selling!
Do that during the day and either keep flipping in the evening or get a part time job in the evenings until your sales job starts providing money.

This, of course, assumes you have some sales skills. If you don't.... what are you doing!?!?

Everyone who wants to be an entrepreneur needs to have skills in at least these three areas: Sales, Marketing, and Negotiation.

If I was you here is what I'd do. Get a few of those moving jobs.... do you know what happens when people move? They like to give good stuff away. Do you know what you can do with that good stuff they give away? Sell it!! You could be making great money selling on ebay by the end of the year. If you want a little guidance, send me a message.

@MoreValue Did you see this guy? You can do it too!

And for those that think this can't be scaled..... it can be. You need to keep your people separated. Once you get to making decent money, have a few people that buy stuff. Never let them know or see anyone else that works for you. Have a person that gets this stuff ready to sell. Never let them know or see anyone else that works for you. Have someone that sells for you and never let them know or see anyone else that works for you. Have someone that sends the packages or pallets to the buyer and of course..... Never let them know or see anyone else that works for you. Never talk about any other part of the business to anyone else, especially, anyone that works for you. And most of all...... NEVER make Youtube videos telling everyone else how you do things and give up all of your secrets because you want to tell the world how cool you are! ;)

@minivanman This is great. There's plenty of ways to make money everywhere, but you have to think differently than the 99%.

Honestly that's a great idea. My main problem is that at the end of the month I won't have access to a car anymore and I'll be moving back to a smaller town. Will see if I can get that done on a smaller scale when I get there.

General update:
Made my way up to $1100 now, everything's going pretty good. Found a job I can start working once I've finished house sitting and get back to my apartment.

Also started looking into products in a certain niche and determined some pain points from reading product reviews. Ordered a bunch of different competitor products, tested them out and figured I could do better. From there I started working on making my own improved version of the product. I'm already seeing good results so I'm gonna work on finishing the product and getting it to market.

Will probably start a progress thread about it on the inside. Till then I'm just gonna keep my head down and get some good hard work done.

Currently going to job interviews, got an interview for one I'm really liking on Monday. Other than that I've been learning copywriting and going freelance on Upwork.

While I work to save up some cash I'll continue to think up some ideas for the fastlane. I like my current product idea, but I wanna make sure the idea I end up choosing is one I can see myself going all out on for the next few years.
