Hi all,

I’m a 38 year old homeschooling mom of 4 living on a small farm in rural Washington.

My husband commutes 3 hours a day and has nothing left for us when he gets home. It has always been my vision to work toward something sustainable and get away from wage slaving. He is relatively ambivalent, but at least he’s not discouraging it.

I’ve been working on different ventures for about 15 years now, none of them tremendously successful but all of them opportunities for learning and growth.

Most recently, I was self publishing nonfiction on Amazon, probably made about $5k +/-. The birth of a baby and resulting health issues put everything on hold for the past 3 years, but now I’m back in action and ready to claw my way to freedom.

My current web project was started to fill a need for information in a low supply, high demand niche. I started it this spring but put it on hold for summer busy season. At the time, I foresaw affiliate/ad monetization, but each of the upcoming 200+ articles are heavy duty 1k+ word behemoths and will probably need to either be tweaked or moved into a book model instead and that missing control element is a major stumbling block. I'll start a thread on that.

I stumbled across Millionaire Fastlane 2 days ago and finished reading it yesterday afternoon. The forum was the next step and I’ve already gleaned some inspiration. Looking forward to learning and contributing when I have something to add.

Thanks for having me!

Welcome! What projects / paths / avenues do you have going?
How can we help? Are any far enough along to start a progress thread?

Sit w/ SO and talk through a long range plan to get him out of that commute. Get him on board and now two of you are working toward your future. Maybe we studies books on tape while driving and makes summaries for you while you work on executing the plan...

Thanks!

I just have the one website now, the books published are old enough now to be making only about $20-$30/mo. Nonfiction is harder to keep up because there are only so many "expert" topics I can write about. I might go back to that at some point, but the main interest is this website. I'm going to go right now and start a thread about it, if I can figure out the forum setup. :D

I was thinking of buying the audiobook of MFL for my husband but I'm not sure if it'd change his mind. I hadn't heard of Unscripted before joining the forum so I'll look at that - would it be a better start? Or, do you have another suggestion of a good audiobook I could start him on? He'd be on board, but as for implementing anything, his skillset is hands-on; he's not interested in technology/bookish things. (I'm actually contemplating rentals for that reason, something he could get physically involved in.)

Welcome Megan, appreciate the introduction!

Or, do you have another suggestion of a good audiobook I could start him on?

IMO, Unscripted would be a better start for him. I also feel it's the better book.

Unscripted Audiobook | Audible.com

It's more relevant for a wage slave and its earlier themes might resonate better with him, preparing him for the business/entrepreneurial aspects.

Encourage him, just don't push. He may dig in his heels.

With anything financial or life changing ..... if they are not directly asking for a kick in the tail, then use PULL instead of PUSH.....

Let him see what you are doing ....... let him see the extra money coming in ..... show him how you could replace his wages / commute with something closer .... explain to him how him being there would be the most important thing to you in the world .......

You are going to do awesome!

Excited for you Megan!

Your husband has actually seen that you have had follow through and even success with ventures. Combining that with your patience in finding ways to engage him in the process is a great start!

Unscripted is definitely the way to go IMO as well! If you do narrow it down to rentals and real estate from there, anything by JScott and I found "Buy It, Rent It, Profit!" well written.

I am using more of a Pull method with a bit of brute force to spice it up with my fiancé. I adore him and our relationship, worth every minute!

Welcome Megan. How has home schooling been? It's something I've always found fascinating, but don't really know how it works. Our son is 4 months, so I think we have some time :p
Schooling is actually pretty easy. We're all born with an innate drive to learn as long as it doesn't get crushed out of us at "school."

We just set them up with the tools they need to discover and pursue their passions - books, experiences, YouTube, etc. They learn so much just by living life. My 10 year old was doing geometry the other day and he correctly answered all of the questions, despite having never "learned" geometry. His response, "I learn all about degrees and angles through Scrap Mechanic." (Scrap Mechanic is a computer game about building and engineering he really likes to play.)
