I've been putting together an information product (some sort of ebook) for a specific health-related niche, and I'm wondering if it is a good idea to use Facebook ads as the primary channel for marketing and selling this pdf information resource.

Now, my immediate concern isn't scaling. I just want to put together an eye catching info graphic picture, describing the ebook and the problem it solves (along with contact email, phone number, and landing page). If it manages to get a good response and gets sales rolling in, then I can move on to find ways to scale the operation.

Is there anyone here who has had success marketing an information product on Facebook? Any tips and tricks about how to go about this effectively?

Make sure you presell. Don't make the product without getting a list of emails FIRST. It's a huge mistake that newbies make - making the product without validating the market first.

Whether or not Facebook ads are an appropriate channel depends on this: where is your audience? If they are on Facebook, then it's fine to advertise there. If they're not, then don't bother.

If you're not good with design, pay someone from Upwork or Fiverr who is.

Thanks @lowtek for the tips.

I believe the audience for this information product is on Facebook, no doubt.

The idea of preselling sounds great, and I know that building a solid email list is a crucial success factor for this kind of undertaking in most parts of the world. But what would you say for certain very populated parts of the world where much of one's target audience place more emphasis on cell phone communication (including SMS messages, Whatsapp messages, and FB messages) than email? In fact, most hardly read or send emails, unless when sending out job applications, official correspondences and such... Which means they probably use their emails twice monthly or less.

In essence, what would you recommend for parts of the world where 'phone lists' are more important than email lists? Hope you get the idea? Thanks.

there are a million e-books out there. millions of ads on facebook. millions of self help health crap out there.

this is also an extremely silly question, just go out and spend a few bucks on ads and try it out & find out for yourself

You can use lead ads on Facebook, with a field for phone #. most of the time it is prepopulated with the information people provide FB

I use FB Ads a lot to drive traffic. Selling an information product this way is something that is a little harder as FB has some of the tightest ad guidelines out there. If they think you are peddling something that is garbage, or get rich quick, or click baity, they will cancel your account, and keep whatever money is in there. It is hard to get it back. I spend thousands on FB a week. I have lost accounts and know how to get them back. I lost them knowing what I was doing and knowing the rules over something as simple as a picture was just a little too dark in their opinion.

So saying all of that, I think if you make a good product. You have a website for your product. You can get a FB Page for your product. You can drum up interest in it there. If it doesn't violate any terms or conditions, then you could certainly market it and do well on FB. I wouldn't be spending as much as I do if I didn't make anything from it. Just be careful with your product.

Personally I would put up a pre-sale funnel. Drum up some interest. Work on JVZoo or Warrior Forum or something similar to get some interest. Maybe then do some Google Adwords/Adsense advertising. Try to get some traffic that way before FB Ads. Then make sure when you do go the FB Ads route you really, really study what to do prior. If you just throw a few dollars at it and try it, you will definitely not have the results you want and a few dollars less than before. Do actually learn it and try it though.

Thanks for your help, @sparechange. I'm sure you'll find many 'sensible' threads across the forum, where you and your fellow geniuses can exchange billion dollar ideas.

Your input isn't necessary here if you're intent on being a wise a$$. You should be too smart (and too busy) to bother about my little "self-help health crap".

No - I run a lot of fb ads and we don't try to sell from fb traffic at all. Front end is only for freebies/engagement. The goal is to find the cheapest traffic and then retarget and email from there. It's much cheaper to advertise to people who've already clicked through than to cold traffic.

Consider making the book free for an email. That audience will be cheaper and more receptive to additional offers than infographic signups.

Wait, but don't you have to make an MVP first? How can you build a list if you don't have a mvp at least?

With a "coming soon" landing page.
oh i see that makes sense. I was reading this book it goes from market research all the way to product launch it never mentioned anything for building an email list. Buy im glad u told me. Will probably save me a ton of time.
One question isnt he building an email list just a way of validating an idea? I have spoken to a few customers and it seems viable tried fb groups to post a survey but no luck.

Yeah, if you can't get an email, you're sure as hell not getting a CC number.

Only way I would build an MVP before a list is if it was a skew of a product people already used. Then the idea has already been validated... but the list would still be valuable for launching.

sounds good. Thanks. My idea I think is validated in a way. Like people already use it but my version has more improvements that other services don't offer.
