22, UK, Late Introduction

Hey guys, long time reader, infrequent poster, (not much wisdom share yet).

Been working in QA since I was 18, landed a entry gig at big company which I did for 1.5 years. After that I moved abroad to work for an even bigger company where I’ve worked for 2 years now.

At the end of the month I’ll be moving back home to the UK. It was unplanned, had Landlord issues over the holidays and the city is nightmare to find accommodation in. I’ve been unhappy at the job for quite sometime anyway, never liked the city and had a horrible past year, so it was a easy decision to leave.

I’ve managed to save around €18k-€20k so I have a bit of time to figure stuff out. I just have no idea what to do next. While my last job looks great on paper (huge company), I’ve learned very little in the past 2 years, it was just not challenging at all. I did a couple of Udemy courses last month because I had that much free time!

I feel like I know so little and my skillset is lacking. So I don’t know where to go from here. I have read the books, although Fast Lane was quite some time ago so maybe I’ll re-read. Obviously Fast Lane business is the main goal but I’ve got nothing to offer yet, I’m far from ready.

I’ll be spending more time here anyway, if you guys have any advice it would be much appreciated!

Say you have £20k in savings. Great! Keep thinking about problems and how you can solve them and once you do come up with your business idea take £18k(or whatever) and "hide" it from yourself.

It can be easy to let money burn a hole in your pocket especially when you are first starting a business. Try to build on a shoestring because the more CASH you have the better. Try not to drop the whole lot on a project.

Money is one part of the equation, it will come and go. By the sounds of it you will have time - which for me a far more precious commodity. When I started my journey a few year back the first thing I did was clearly define what I actually wanted- what my day looked like, where I lived, what type of professionals I met. When you have a clear picture of what you want the route to get there becomes clearer. I have attended a number of networking events and tradeshow lately- when you visit with a FL mind-set you can soon get a feel for the status quo and were problems and opportunities exist. I am also UK and there is often talk about a meetup. Keep in touch. Good luck.

Yeah whatever my first venture is I plan not to use too much capital. Getting started is the hardest part for me as I'm terrible with ideas but I'll have plenty of time to think. Thanks!

Sounds like a good plan. I still need to figure out exactly what I want, I don't even know where I want to live yet! But like you said I've got time to figure stuff out. Thanks!
