If anyone hasn't ever visited this subreddit, please save yourself the pain. Essentially it is a socialist subreddit that hates on our current capitalist system and claims that "late stage capitalism" does not work. Do you think that there is any merit to what they are saying or are they just lazy and ignorant?

Hell no theres no merit. To me, most of these anti-capitalism/free education/$15 an hour types, are people who have realized that their lives arent going to be as grand as they hoped. Because of their lack of talent or drive, they know that their quality of life will be pretty low, so they cling to these little movements to feel like they are part of something, and "break the system" which will ultimately put them on equal footing with the people that they despise.
Most of the time, they haven't thought things all the way out.

I've endured a few minutes on that sub, I saw one article about bananas that were being wasted because they didn't meet a certain regulation. I think the point was valid that capitalism has some inefficiencies, but the conclusion that it's a failing system is completely wrong. There was no mention of the literal train loads of food that went to waste under a communist system.

Not gonna lie, that kind of shit disgusts me. One of the most annoying parts is the free education.

It's like - bro. You have free education. It's called the internet. Why in the F*ck should someone else pay for you to go and learn about how even though your friend Samantha has a penis Xe is still a lesbian.

I just confused myself.

Another thread on the same topic.

Slowlane - Top post on Reddit today

free education

If you have an internet connection or access to a library, education is already free. But don't tell these children that.

You know, socialist, extremely liberal-leaning, and similar groups/subreddits don't bother me. You see problems in the world and you want them fixed. That's cool. I'm not going to freak out because your opinions differ.

You know what bothers me? Their hypocrisy. Their lack of action.

Once, I read a thread about a girl's boyfriend who refused to get a job because he didn't want to help prop up a corporate environment. Or something to that effect. And I really enjoyed the responses to the thread.

It was completely fine to think that. But, how was he using his time? Was he volunteering at local charities? Providing his time to the poor? Hell, was he at least trying to make art that captured the essence of the struggle?

Or was he dicking around? Living off his girlfriend's work. Hint: When she said she was going to quit her job for the same reason (to test him) he threw a fit. Said she was irresponsible, childish, etc.

Voicing opinions within an echo chamber is not helping.

Regardless of your beliefs, if you're just reciting the same shit to your echo chamber, you're not doing anything.

You support Planned Parenthood? Good. Donate.
You want the environment to be saved? Write for a nonprofit, send them a few extra dollars, etc.
You believe the poor need help? I'm sure a local food pantry or soup kitchen wouldn't mind a helping hand.

If you can scrounge together an extra ten dollars, then you can donate to a cause you believe in. If you have literally no money, that's fine. You have sweat to give.

I'm not saying that government shouldn't be involved in supporting their causes. The forum isn't the place to discuss that. But, sharing a bunch of memes or articles from "socialistamericaisbestamerica.freedom" to your echo chamber is not going to help.

You want to spread information about your cause? Pick up books on P.R., marketing, readTrust Me, I'm Lying, and learn how to wage a war of information and public opinion.

I'm not saying don't read and share articles. Or not to protest (that's your right as an American!). But I'm saying don't stop there. If you want to see change, you're going to need to roll up your sleeves and get to work.

There are over 100,000 subscribers to Late Stage Capitalism. If, given half a year, they each saved up five dollars, then they would have the ability to donate half a million to the cause of their choice.

--
In the words of a friend, "I am, of course, generalizing." I'm sure that plenty of the people on that subreddit give their time, sweat, and money to causes. Just as people on the other side of the spectrum will both be lazy and unhelpful, and productive and charitable.

the amount of times shit from that sub gets up-voted to the front page should tell you that site is full of the kind of people you don't want to be around

There is no merit to their position and nothing to gain by exposing yourself to it. I don't recall the origin of the quote and I'm only repeating from memory so my apology to the speaker but "there is no one more crippled than the 'well rounded man' in these troubled times." Spoken around the time of the French Revolution. Point being, you listen to the "other side" too much and you lose sight of your own vision. The theory that everybody has something to add and all sides are valid overlooks the obvious truth that some people are wrong, stupid, malicious or otherwise best ignored.

Leave these dipshits to their dipshittery. I won't poison my mind by reading that crap and I invite you to do the same.

Otherwise, a little economics and/or philosophy would go a long ways to curb this type of thinking.

If they really value free education so much, they should've tried harder in grade school while they were getting their free education. With a little bit of effort throughout high school, many will find their education will continue to be free (or nearly free) throughout college with the abundance of grants and scholarships available. And if that's not the case, one can go to a cheap community college, excel, and transfer to a 4 year university on the cheap, again because of grants and scholarships.

Like that's what I really don't get. The system as it is set up now, for the majority, is great. If you really value education, you can continue it for next to nothing. But if you show that its not important to you by not trying in high school, they won't further subsidize your education past 18. Why should they?

Sure, maybe fastlane isn't for everybody. But there are so, so many slowlane paths available now to the masses that standing in the street (or should I say, on the sidewalk, cough cough) with a sign in your hands is extremely futile. For most of us in first world countries, the world is as abundant as ever with opportunity: why stand around wasting it?
