Okay so I read the thread pertaining to dropping out or not, but it still doesn't answer my question. I'm a finance major with a concentration in real estate and I want to get my degree but I am annoyed with general education requirements that are "used to enhance your thinking, such as pre calculus, you'll never use it but it will open your brain to a new way of thinking". These courses are just deteriorating my passion for knowledge, learning and success. I love learning things but i'm at the point in my life where I know exactly what I want to do and i'm planning how i'm going to do it (real estate investing and small cap growth stocks). My thinking right now is, if I just say screw the degree, I can use all of my time to research and prepare for my career in real estate investing and start working at becoming financially free. I can get a day job temporarily to get approval for a loan on a house and live in it with some roommates (so i'm living rent free in it) then sell it for more than I bought it for at the end of the year when i'm done renovating it. Also i'm currently starting my real estate investment business with my partner. If I continue to go to college, I will have to move back to campus next year (which is only 30 minutes away form me now) but I will also have 5 courses a week to take and 2 or 2 and 1/2 years left of college. I plan on being close to financially free by the time I graduate, but what if I can drop out and make it happen faster.
Maybe I should just continue pursuing my degree and if I hit that moment of, "wow if I drop out it will really exacerbate my success" then I will, but then i'm worried about the possibility of wasting the money in college. I am fortunate enough to be leaving college debt free because of my parents so it would be their money I would be wasting, which impacts me even more than if I was paying for it. I'm just looking for any type of insight from someone that is or has dealt with a similiar situation. Any advice will help! Thanks guys!
