So I've read the 'what to do if your partner is a slowlaner' thread, but I'd like to hear from people who have partners who are supportive of their ambitions?
And to what degree, ie does anyone out there actively work with their partners?
It's a strange one for me. I haven't been with my partner for all that long, she's a little younger than me and in some ways a little less mature. While I'm grateful that I'm lucky in that she does accept that I am not going to let myself end up working in a 9-5, lately I things have hinted at a bit of a change but I'm not sure I'm comfortable with the conversations.
IE I was talking about my ambitions with one of my businesses and out of the blue she says she wishes she was a part of it.
Being a company I've started from nothing, there are a few issues for me personally with that; I Want and need to have total control; I need it to be 'my way' as it's my passion, my baby and it will cause tension and possibly resentment if it isn't. The whole reason I embark on this path is for control, and not only would her being involved take that away, unlike a normal business partner, I wouldn't be able to put concerns across without the conversation being emotionally charged.
Secondly I don't play with other people's money. I've had to be self-dependant since the age of 16, and having someone else put funds in feels like that is taken away. Plus again, if I loose it all, I don't want anyone's cash on the line but my own. Plus the fact that her contribution would be minimal at best realistically.
I proposed a project we could both get involved in with her more in command, but It feels a little bit like she's seen progress and wants to jump on a get-rich-easy boat, stating that she didn't want to look after a different business idea as it was 'boring'.
Are there any fastlane couples out there? Does it actually work for you? I seldom read about business couples which seemed to say it all to me. She can and will take offence at 'I don't want you involved because xyz'. Is wanting to distance making money and maintaining a relationship understandable? Am I being petty in wanting to keep her away from the businesses?
Cheers!
