Wow, MINT is really climbing on MintPal. Very nice.

Hey MystPhysX, do you have any experience dealing with Qt and Retina? How about Mono on Mac OSX?

Got the 15" right here, and I've been using Qt for a while. Enough to know what to do when faced with errors but not fluent enough to make my own projects. To be honest I only got into OSX dev because TiPS lacked a proper OSX wallet for a long time.

Umm, is cryptsy having issues? I just logged in, and most of my balances have disappeared... is this just something that happens from time to time with them?

They're not called Craptsy for no reason. I stopped using them last year.

It's definitely go issues. I found 1.36 bitcoins in my wallet there the other day. I thought it was from selling some DVC so I withdrew it and looked today and it says I have a -1.36 balance. Way to go crytpsy.

I violated my normal rule and left some balances on there...mainly LEAF that I was building a big position in ;) Kind of having a mild heart attack right now lol. I'll just wait it out, I'm sure it will get sorted. I think. I hope. At least I pulled all my BTC off there the other day. I guess I was bound to get bitten by them sooner or later. It had been smooth sailing for too long.

MINT is going freakin insane.

Do you still actively trade there? I've used another exchange called Bter.com and they are pretty bad too. They have fast deposits and withdrawals, but they had a habit of locking wallets and preventing withdrawals unless a ransom was paid. Also, they won't respond to emails unless they are in Chinese.

Somebody really needs to build a good exchange. The problem is it requires some real design and effort. We're stuck with either the cryptsy/bter/etc. of the world, or all these little exchanges run by high school kids with a 1 tier design using an open source PHP script that are just asking for it. Cryptsy apparently raised $5m and look at the problems they still have and from what I've read their biggest challenge is every time there is even a minor glitch they get thousands of support tickets. The problem is its so speculative its hard to justify putting $10m bucks into it I guess. If you believe the market will grow and not collapse, it could be quite lucrative. I thought about doing it but I know what it would take to do it right and its a little too risky to me.

How much time would it take if you had a couple of coders working with you?

I only go there to sell coins when a new one get's introduced.

Atm I'm mostly using Mintpal and Coinmarket.io

Used bter back in my Quark days, thought it was very fast compared to cryptsy, not sure what it is like now.

Also btc-e for day trading litecoin and bitcoin (but haven't done that in a while).

I'm going long on MINT for now, especially as I'm building a website dedicated to attracting merchants to except it as payment.

However, you guys should take profit whenever you're happy with what you've earned. Profit is profit. If some of you have already doubled, you could always get back your buy in price by selling half then you can relax knowing it's all profit, up to you. I personally am holding through the next phase of block reward halving and into the PoS transitional phase; keeping a close eye on the latter part.

@ MystPhysX - Spoke to the main devs and you are welcome to work as the OSX wallet dev if you like and you got the skills, I can organise a bounty for you if you do a good job, let me know. They said it needs an update.

I thought I did well last night when I bought at 13 and sold at 15 for a 14% profit. Didn't expect the value to shoot up so much over such a short space of time.

It's now hovering around 27-30. I'm wondering whether I should buy some more now. Hmm.

Anyone else watching coinmarket like crazy? They were down until 20:00 today, there were still sell orders on there for 15 sats! I missed out cause I got logged out at the last second.

I wonder if anyone got ahold of the cheap cointmarket coins. I had been transferring BTC there since I noticed the price was slightly lower but wasn't aware of the trade delay until I saw the spread had become so wide.

I was going to do a large purchase at 15, but in the time it's taken to actually get BTC, the price has shot up some more. I already hold 5M on MINT that I got at 5 sat. I think I'll wait a little on this market since otherwise, I'll get a large position on Cage or something like that. Going to 60 sat is only a 100% return and would make it a 25M market cap.

Yeah, I saw it and immediately liquidated 600 VTCs to get an extra 2BTC. Transferred 6.5BTCs intending to sweep it up, until it said 'under maintenance' lolol.

They should have made that more apparant.

I think sellers could cancel there orders up until it came back online, guess some people were asleep or weren't astute enough to do so.

When I looked at the trade history, there were no sale orders at 15, however saw some at 17 and 19. Lucky buggers. I had 4 windows open, to buy at 15, 16, 17 and 19. But got logged out at the last minute. Grrr.

I'm seriously debating on going more into MINT. I don't like something that goes from 5 sat to 30 sat in a few days and then buying in at the 30.

I had already talked myself in at 15 sat to have a 50M position. The same BTC amount would have gotten me 150M MINT before.

This is all Alty's doing ;) Next coin he recommends, I'll go in super early if it's cheap enough :)

Ditto, just transferred 6.5 BTC into Mint exchange (managed to quickly buy and sell some MINT at coinmarket to cover my fees).

6 months with a team of 5-6 experienced guys to design and build the software stack. But then you need the investment in the hardware/networking/infrastructure and security, firewalls reverse proxies etc. adds up quick. And you need instrumentation and support systems, and the offshore support staff but thats easier. Its a multi-million dollar project. There's that startup in vancouver I think, doing it for bitcoin. Would be great if they make it pluggable for alt coins but I doubt we'll see that.

Cryptsy resolved my issue. It was related to their update. I do have to say, if you look at their history and the exponential load growth they experienced, they've managed to at least stay up and relatively stable and not just totally collapse.

I always finw with Shitsy, they send me an email AFTER something has been resolved. Kinda pointless.

Having said that, no-one can compete with their volumes, so I'll have to give them that.

Just to let you know, there is a chance that this thread will get locked.

I'd like to stay in contact with everybody that posts here, so I'm going to set up a seperate forum called CryptoRefuge or CryptoIsland (something like that). The forum will be a place for us to keep in touch in the event of a lock down.

Thanks for recommending MINT Alty, I got in at 15 sats. Any idea where we could be headed? I have no idea when to take my profits.

@Alty - I can't believe they would lock it - I found this forum because of this thread. It looks interesting and I'll look around later, but this thread is the reason I keep coming back. That being said, I'd like to continue this discussion. There are some similar threads on bitcointalk, but none of them seem to have the same level of conversation.

On a completely separate note, I have two questions:

1) What are people looking at other than MINT? And why? (not meant as sarcasm - genuine interest)

2) Does anyone know of any price alert websites? i.e. I want to be alerted by email or SMS when the price of an alt currency goes above or below a certain threshold.

2000BTC trade volume on MINT in last 24 hours.

Market has gone just exploded in last 2 hours. I bought 6.5BTC's last night @35 and sold at around 54-55 today. Hit a peak of 64 I think.

Could spot some whales on this, 28BTC buy walls that kept creeping up every satoshi. It has calmed down a little, but it was very exciting to see this roller coaster in motion.

Bought 1BTC to trade on Craptsy.

Hindsight is 20/20. When btc was $6 I was trying to figure out how to purchase 1000 of them. When I found out what MtGox stood for I gave up and forgot about it for nearly 2 years :headbanger:..oh well

I first got in at around $90-$100. Then the price dipped to $65. I had lots of fiat in my BTC exchange account, and I thought to myself, "It'll go lower, wait a little. Wait a little longer, it will go lower, then buy in." It never went down after that. Then it flatlined, then China, then $1,000/BTC.
