Hey guys, I've been around on the forums for awhile but haven't posted much. I finally took the plunge and registered for an LLC, received my reseller certification, and was accepted by a whole saler in the industry. Here's my plan:
1. The Idea
I am currently about 3.5 weeks away from graduating with a B.S. in Economics. My college campus holds 15,000 people. Through research, I collected data that showed roughly 6,000 people use the campus gym per day and roughly half of them are males (males are more likely to purchase sports supplements). We have no local supplement shop at all. The closest thing we have are the BS supplements they sell at "grocery stores" and RiteAid's - supplements that are marked up almost 100%. Most people buy their supplements from online stores and therefore must pay for shipping.. and that's where I come in. People will be able to order via my website (anything after 6pm would be delivered next day or something like that) or from me personally and pick it up same day. I can compete against the giants if I can cut shipping costs, which I am doing 100%.
2. Marketing
Currently have a website, a facebook page with 4k+ likes, Instagram, Twitter, etc. I'm going to be handing out flyers in front of the campus gym promoting my business as well as allowing people to sign up to an online newsletter that I will be sending out weekly that will give them information on sales (as well as any events my company may be planning and/or sponsoring) as long as they sign up with a valid college email. The reason why I want a college email is because they are already forced to look at it daily (emails from professors, etc) and because (sorry if this sounds terrible) refund check's are enormous nowadays and I want to be able to send out mass emails around the times that refund checks are distributed with lots of leads and sales. Nothing better than seeing an email with "Your Refund Check Has Been Deposited Into Your Account" and then right afterwards "Sales On Your Favorite Pre-Workout All Week!!". Also all the little things like stickers, t-shirts, etc.
I am also going to set up an affiliate program for a couple representatives to help me market as well as make them profit. I have a system set up so that every person they bring to my website via their special affiliate link, within 1 day, will get 5% (subject to change, but this is the number I am using to calculate profit) of the total sale. This gives them the incentive to spam their facebooks/instagram/etc with "My sponsor just hooked me up with my new favorite pre-workout xxxxxx, buy it from my link below for a special price!!". I am going to be expanding to a neighboring college within the next few months as well, which has double the college student body and still no local supplement shop. The affiliates will effectively allow me to market my company without actually doing anything.
3. My Stock
I know some products that will sell 100% but I'm afraid to stock things that I'm not so sure of. I'm wondering if I should do some sort of pre-sale? No idea. One idea that I came up with though is marketing Phenibut. Phenibut is basically legal Adderall (or at least that's what it is being described as via thousands of user reviews). I'm on a college campus, where (thousands of) people buy Adderall for 5-10$ a pill illegally. I can buy enough Phenibut to make Adderall sales obsolete. I know marketing a supplement as a legal version of Adderall is going to take off like wildfire. I just hope all the ADD kids don't band together to break my legs once they realize I'm stealing their customers. (Sadly, this could happen)
4. The Overall Goal
I want to appeal to college kids that do not have access to a local supplement store. I can compete with places such as GNC, Vitaminshoppe, etc. because they have ridiculous mark ups on their supplements ONLY if I can take away their customers. I know that people would rather go to a GNC and pay 80$ for something that they could buy from a company like myself for 40$ just because it's GNC. This is where marketing is going to be huge. I really want to build a grass roots marketing scheme where athletes/affiliates that I sponsor are the main drivers. I don't need this business to be enormous - I need this business to be successful. I want to become profitable and I want to sell it to someone who will be in the area for longer than I am (I live 1.5 hours away from the campus when I don't live here).
I'm going to keep this thread bumped as I keep moving along with my company. Any questions, or any input at all would be greatly appreciated. I am forever grateful for what MJ's book and this forum has given me.
