Just read the book and signed up for a forum account, so here we go:
I went to work in my profession straight out of college, earning in the upper third of starting salaries, but have quickly realized that the grind is not for me. It's work that I thoroughly enjoy, but it's work nonetheless. I am 25, and my goal is to be financially independent by 35, but sooner, if possible. The driving force inside me is a desire to spend unlimited time with my family, to travel and experience the outdoors, and to volunteer with non-profits in the local community. Currently, I have only scraps of leftover time to offer any of these pursuits.
My consumer debt has been eliminated, and I'm just working on getting some student loans and personal loans from my family out of the way. This should all be taken care of within the year. Fiscally, maybe this isn't the smartest thing to do, but it's a monkey that I no longer want on my back.
I've established some marginal additional income flipping things in a niche on Craigslist, but after reading the book, I've realized that there is no scaling potential to my business. Any additional income I want to generate is going to take an equal number of additional man hours, and there is no chance of exponential type growth ever happening. I could maybe triple what I'm making if I absolutely went balls to the wall, but even that wouldn't approach fastlane status. My niche is saturated with people that have successfully scaled this to the national and global level, so there's really no potential there either. This realization, combined with recently falling victim to a $6,000 scam that ate up a lot of my capital has allowed me to step back and set a new course going forward.
I will continue operating my day job and my flipping niche, for now, so I can pay off debt and get something off of the ground. However, the gears are in motion and I'm toying with several workable ideas and am doing as much research as I can to determine their feasibility. I'm sure I will be back to these forums many times seeking advice and information in my pursuits.
I'll aim for millions, but tens of thousands would suit me just fine as well. I live frugally with no desire for major lifestyle inflation in the future. Over the next few years, I'm just looking to accrue investments in the 800k range, then retire and live on the gains/dividends while continuing to generate optional income from hobbies of mine.
