Hello Everyone

After reading two books from MJ (Fastlane & Rat Race Escape) I decided to become part of the Fastlane Forum. I’m a 24- year old social worker from switzerland and eventhough I would describe my job as somewhat meaningful it still doesn't fulfill me or make me happy. In fact I often find myself feeling burnt out or depressed and all I truly want in this life is to be free, inside- out. After reading these two books it feels possible to escape all of this for the first time. I don't know how I’m going to do it yet but I’m starting my journey today. Feeling a little anxious but also excited and eager to learn and grow.

Grüezi

Welcome to the forum and greetings from Olten.

Good luck on your jurney!

Welcome! I've reread The Fastlane book again, and I've introduced it to my husband (we got married last month!). He really loves it! We're very like-minded, and he wants to own a successful florist business. He's starting out here in the UK (he moved from Mexico) by applying for jobs and learning on the job to understand how these companies operate, what their needs and problems are, and what the market is demanding.

Is there anything on your mind about how you can make the world a better place – like, what existing problems have you thought of?

I need to check if there where any options im switzerland aswell, I guess what scares me a bit ia just that it would be really super expensive! Maybe you’re right about the niche - there are some let’s say “fair clothing brands” but they’re usually not very fashionable, so I think young people wouldn’t really wear that… I’m also thinking about recycling or upcyling since there exist so many clothes on this earth already, but that might be a totally different story…

All the plastic fabric is so uncomfortable to wear and most of the clothes you can buy wear down so fast. There was a good documentary on YouTube. I can search it up if you are interested.

Personally a shirt doesn't have to be really fancy. But just don't make it look like a huge ad-board for the brand (LV, Gucci, Versace, ... And yes, of course all the algorythms show you the stuff you look at the longest. So if you start watching this stuff it will show you more. And the normal human psychology is, that if we see more of something we automatically think it happens a lot more than it actually does.

The situation I've noticed so far is that there are a few companies that do sustainable clothing. Most of them are pretty ugly imo. I don't want everyone to see that my shirt is made with recycled cotton or whatever. I want it because I think it is good for the planet and it will last me a long time. Not to show everyone that I'm a great person. And most of those products are still not that high quality. Just made of ecological stuff.

You might find more if you look a bit deeper into it. Maybe go to some places like Manor, Coop, and so on and see if you can find real high quality stuff that still looks good for everyday wear.

Another example: Mark Zuckerbergs shirts look really basic. They cost about 600USD per shirt from what I've heard. It's because they are made with high quality materials and of course made by a known tailor. But in the end he pays for the quality and not for the gucci or prada logos on the shirt. I guess there is a market for this stuff. If it is not as expensive probably even more if the "normal" person is able to afford it.

Hope this helped.

But just in case you do not: www.nikin.ch

Yes I‘ve heard about them! But until now I somehow thought that they‘d focus on like outdoor clothing more like ochsner sport or something… I don‘t know why tho

But even if there are a lot of people doing something this is not a sign to not do it. First you have the confirmation that there is a market for it and second most of those people are probably not from Switzerland.

I’ve watched the documentaries and they really helped me to put into perspective what’s the problem. I actuallz think it’s quite complex and there are a few things that nees to be changed. It starts from what material you choose to use, how you produce and what you intend to do with the clothing afterwards. I’m a bit afraid it could be too hard to break the cycle, because our whole society would also need to change their mindset about fashion and consuming. People love to buy, that’s why they don’t care about quality. And trends change so fast, nobody wants to be left out. I think I would need to get people to start caring for their clothes more and get them to understand that they need to start to value every single piece. But how do I do that in a world like this, where everybody is stressed and unhappy - just looking for a way to numb themselves?
