Is it just me or did the homepage new post bar thing that I browse the forum with just become completely unreadable?
I thought it was a bug.

The forum has been just slow overall.

The "new posts" display has gone weird because the various columns (other than the title) are now far too wide, I think. I see about three topics in the scroll window now, far fewer than before. I figured it was just some new way of laying out forums that is "modern" but just makes it harder for dinosaurs like me to find stuff.

“Be ready at any moment to sacrifice what we are, for what we could become” -Charles Du Bos

Really made me think. We get so tied up with who we believe we are… we’ll hold onto that and never blossom. Not the most original idea but eloquently stated I thought.

Killing every landlord and having each person own their own home won’t solve the problem.
I read a fascinating book recently: “How Asia Works” which looked at historical development of Asian countries over last 40-50 years.

The premise was basically: countries that decided decades ago to have massive land reform (I.e. redistribution of land) + incentives on exports (exposing manufacturers to global competition and thereby increasing quality) enabled those economies to become what they are now (China, Korea, Japan), and those that didn’t do those 2 things (most of Southeast Asia) are relatively struggling and have fared worse.

So a counter to your point: history shows examples that redistribution of land actually can be a factor in “solving the problem” (doesn’t require killing though).

However, you are also right, that despite this, wealth always eventually consolidates itself. But it can only consolidate so far before it will redistribute (either proactively through policy, or reactively through revolution).

This is part of why the world goes through 80-120 year macro cycles (read The Changing World Order by Ray Dalio for a fascinating read on the macro global power cycles and the slow rise and fall of economies and major powers).

I'm chilling at a restaurant right now and I've spotted something really interesting.

At the bottom of the menu card is written "For every google review, we gift 2€ for nature preservation projects. We've already donated 5000€! Thanks!"
Or in other words... 2500 reviews. And it's also one of the more crowded restaurants here btw.

Just wanted to share this!
I noticed that when companies or businesses use donations to a good cause, they blow up.

there was these two Italian restaurants, basically the same, I’ve gone to both and they have the same relative value.

Same customer service etc.

One of them?

They made a system where you can tip, but those tips go to malnourished children.

Over the span of a few years, the normal one went out of business.

The second one?

They now have 2-3 restaurants.

It doesn’t seem like a lot, but they both opened a few years ago.

Im pretty sure they are getting ready to franchise.

So moral of the story: if you can associate your brand with a good cause, it helps open up skews, USPS, and new markets.

No, it's not you, a plugin was updated late last night with poor results.

Some people are just in they’re own world huh

I was in the gym yesterday with a friend, we were using the bench

and this guy beside us was lifting too heavy and didn’t have proper form

(he was curling 45 pounds each hand)

I told my friend to look at him and even him, a beginner could tell it was too heavy.

After he did a few a$$ reps, he stole our bench when we were grabbing higher weights.

We got pissed, so we went up to him, told him to get off and he said no, as he was “resting”

And he was scrolling on TikTok, we decided to move over to a different seat.

We moved excercises, he was still on the bench.

Then, after 20 minutes on TikTok, he didnt put back his weights, and left.

Just a random thought that came back to me..

Everyone has now stopped to call Musk crazy for having bought Twitter for 44 billion as he is transforming it as the best social media platform on the planet.

Shows once again how truly stupid "everyone" is.

The wisdom of crowds is a hoax. Bet on yourself.

I was talking to my friend and he brought up entrepreneurship,

then he said that it’s luck etc.

I told him about the big three: Musk, Zuckerberg and Bezos

And how they started from the ground up.

This dude said “wait they’re entrepreneurs?”

Sometimes I question how I pick my friends…

I think you're mistaken. The wisdom of corporate media and the morons who follow them is a hoax. Generally speaking, the crowd is accurate. But when you take one minority subset of the world and claim "this is the crowd" then yes, you'll get a ton of misinformation, malformed opinions, and bad advice.

Most entrepreneurs I know became entrepreneurs when they realized they were unemployable.

They didnt become entrepreneurs by choice, but by necessity.

Describes myself perfectly. I would be an entrepreneur, or a dead man.

Ok, I agree with you, let me rephrase.

The wisdom of crowds applies to general situations (1) under the condition that the crowd isn't influenced (2).

As soon as you enter the realm of specialization, or as soon as the crowd is influenced (Eg: marketing, media, etc), the wisdom of crowds disappears.

Describes myself perfectly. I would be an entrepreneur, or a dead man.

Yep, same for me.

My experience differs - most entrepreneurs I know are opportunists, were exposed to the possibility through personal connections obtained while holding high-paying, specialized job or some kind of governmental contracts.

Interesting stories from 6-figure earners. I found the one about the guy who ditched NY for Texas particularly interesting -- he improved his life by simply moving.

My friend works in LA making $120k a year. His classmate who graduated from the same program makes the same amount of money as him, except he lives in Charlotte, NC.

The difference in quality of life is staggering. My friend lives in a house with 3 other dudes and rents a room. His classmate bought a 2000 sq ft house for himself.

Moving from Seattle to FL made a great difference with my income. Now I am just working on increasing it without it being tied to one employer.

Oh yeah, and I was able to buy a house within a bike ride of a few beaches for half the price of what it would have been near work, not near beaches, in the dark dark winters.

Sounds about right. I worked at a corporate job for about a year, then switched to a different one. I simply thought the first job was not right for me.

After a year at the second job, I left that one also. The problem was not the companies or the jobs. The problem was that I don't fit into that world.

I have friends doing well working at big companies, and I'm happy for them, but ... it's not for me.

"Why don't you try to get a job with them?" Papa said when I told him about our competitor in live streaming business.

This wasn't an advice for me to get some experience in the business world. See, we had already provided several demonstration of our services prior to this conversation. And I got some hot leads coming up due to those free demonstrations.

The advice was simply asking me to get a job. The advice came from someone who never run a business (Papa ran a hobby, shooting videos).

It got me thinking. Why is Papa asking me to get a job during the early stages of starting a business? And the thousands of dollars equipment that he bought that we use during those free demonstrations - why on earth he bought it at the first place?

I realised that not everyone has the ability to analyse the market. I thought that by telling him that we have a competitor, means there's a demand for live streaming services, and that is good news worth sharing.

Few weeks later, the leads came up. We went to a small island where our food and accommodations were not for us to think about. The business owner bear the cost of it. That was our first sales after 5-6 months engaging the market.

6 hours ago, Papa told me a job vacancy. We were a month after completing our second paid live streaming services, and next month there's another one coming.

Why, Pop? Why? [Insert Jackie Cha

Anyone else notice that 2/3 of the things you order online in the last month or so have been temporarily lost, fully lost or oddly delayed? What gives?

The only carrier that isn’t sucking right now is Amazon’s own logistics department.

USPS, UPS and FedEx are all trash at the moment.

So, fellow Americans...

Now that Africa, Russia, and China have pushed US money out, and Africa has banned US money, I guess we really do need to start learning how to grow crops and shit :D.

Is this the doomsday people have been waiting for for years, or is it another "cry wolf" move? I typically avoid paying attention to global politics, but GOD DAMN! How can one ignore everything that's happening?

Oh! And let's not forget Africans have spent the last X amount of months committing genocide against white farmers in Africa (South Africa mostly, if I recall correctly).

Oohhhh! Something tells me some crazy shit is going to unfold heading into 2024 and I'm here for it.

Cheers.
