Hello, I am 17 years old (living in Germany) and I perceived that it is very hard to find people who are interested in learning something new together for instance programming to enable the opportunity to do cool, innovative projects. All teenagers in my age are interested in taking drugs like alcohol or doing other things that are only a waste of time (watching youtube videos together). I can't say that I am a perfect kid that has done everything without a mistake, but I can say that I am very interested in developing my skills in IT (programming, or learning to hack) so that I can do projects, which are much more interesting than going to clubs and parties and could probably be something worth.

Because of this, I would be very thankful for everyone who is interested in learning new things together and developing new products together. I think there are only pros for me and the person or persons who are interested in collaborating with me because a good friendship (in which the friends aspire the same goal) is more worth than anything.

Thanks to everyone, who reads this and you are very welcome to write back.

I'm 10 years older than you. If I could go back in time, this is what I would tell myself:

  • Surround yourself with progress-oriented people, but master the skill of self-motivation.
  • Do not stop learning. Use a systematic approach and do at least 4 pomodoros of studying every single day from this moment onwards. You will not believe the kind of results that you will get over the years.
  • It's a very good thing that you don't waste too much time at parties, but do not neglect social skills. Regardless of the path you choose in life, strong social skills are going to be a cornerstone of your success.
  • Start going to the gym and train hard. It will pay off tenfold. Not only you will feel and look amazing, but there is scientific evidence that physical exercise improves mental capacity, which will directly help you in your career.

Good luck, and enjoy the journey.

Hey Rares, I am so glad we connected.. actually, I am a young veteran with an electrical engineering degree background .. Despite this I was into shipping for like 8 years and then recently moved to corporate and at present holding a leadership position in a startup...

So I am good in maths.. I love space.. I am attracted to robotics.. AI ..
I feel I need to work on my programming skills too..

Along with this .. I am good in management skills .. I do like to explore different cultures as well as read philosophy and human behavioral psychology.. Along with this.. I read a lot too about leadership ... I feel a lot can be exchanged as far as learning and exchanging ideas and vision is concerned..

Ok, my Discord Tag is Duu Huuund#2357 (and if you can understand german I know the name could seem to be insulting but I don't intend it to be. It was only a name I choose 2 years ago or something like this because it was a meme in Germany) You can add me so that we can keep in touch better.

Guys, lets start an accountability group on discord. We can work together and share ideas. I have a weekly phone call with 3 other 7 figure revenue business owners and it's been really helpful.

Would be happy to contribute.

@heavy_industry looks like you and I are only a year apart. Totally agree with your advice above.

Surround yourself with progress-oriented people, but master the skill of self-motivation.
but...how though? I literally cannot figure out how to find progress-oriented people outside of this forum. And that's not exactly surrounding myself with them either, I think I need real people IRL. And mastering the skill of self-motivation is a whole lot easier said than done, it's like telling a depressed person to 'get over it,' or a chronic procrastinator to 'stop being lazy' or 'just do it.'

I wanted to do this, but COVID exists. Cramming myself in an indoor space for a prolonged period of time with dozens of other people, nearly all of them panting heavily (including me), seems like a recipe for disaster right now.

Ideally you would do that IRL. If that's currently not an option, this forum and high value people's podcasts are a great start.

And mastering the skill of self-motivation is a whole lot easier said than done, it's like telling a depressed person to 'get over it,' or a chronic procrastinator to 'stop being lazy' or 'just do it.'
I didn't say it was easy, nor did I say it's a one-step process of "just do it". But if you really want to master your self motivation, there are plenty of resources to help you learn how the neurology of motivation works.
It's not easy to do and it will take time, but you can't win at anything if you don't know how to motivate yourself, so it's worth doing it.

I wanted to do this, but COVID exists. Cramming myself in an indoor space for a prolonged period of time with dozens of other people, nearly all of them panting heavily (including me), seems like a recipe for disaster right now.
We live in a dangerous world. Calculate your risks and make your own decisions.
There are plenty of places to get the virus, and I think that isolating yourself at home is more dangerous for your health than the virus itself.
If for some reason you don't want to go to a crowded gym, you can either go very early in the day when it's empty, run outside in the open, or do calisthenics at home. There are plenty of options.

Another thing that caught my attention:
Based on your reply, you have a victim/scarcity mindset. You won't get very far if you think like that.
Life is full of problems, but we can find solutions to every one of them. We are much stronger than we think.

Yeah, it's called learned helplessness. I've been trying my best (with as much of an optimistic mindset as I can muster) for the past 2 years now and have made roughly 0 progress. Negative progress, even, since now I have less money and less time. I think it's reasonable to come to the conclusion that not everyone is able to find good actionable solutions to any problem they encounter, and that bucket of people includes me. So in the interest of not giving up entirely, I've been trying to seek outside help (for some much-needed perspective and motivation), but that's been going nowhere too. I was hoping there was some sort of group of progress-minded people I could tap into IRL, but if there is, I haven't been able to find any so far.

Calculate your risks and make your own decisions.
In other words, this has proven to be a very bad idea for me. Which doesn't bode well for the future, given that's what a lot of what entrepreneurship is, but I still don't want to just give up on the idea since it seems to be the only viable path out of the wage cage, which is not a lifestyle I can tolerate. But I guess it's possible I'm just screwed and this whole angle is doing nothing but causing me undue stress, analogous to someone with dreams of being a famous singer/actor/whatever who busts their a$$ trying to make that dream work, even though they're objectively absolutely awful at singing/acting/whatever, and anyone who encourages they pursue that dream is just further leading them down the wrong path. But, I don't know if that's really the case here, and I at least maintain some optimism in that regard.

Anyway, sorry if I've been derailing the thread.

In this case I would 100% recommend starting training ASAP. Both cardio and lifting weights, but with more emphasis on lifting weights. You will start to see the mental benefits in a few months. You will no longer suffer from learned helplessness. You will learn that you are strong and capable, and that you are willing to endure pain to achieve your goals. You will start to like to put in effort.

Nothing in this world will help you more than exercise. Its profound effects on the brain are staggering.

Hey, I'd love to be in this group! I'm 16 and learning about business and related things with a long way to go. I've spent a lot of time researching nutrition and fitness with some results for myself. I don't like anything to do with programming, but I would be inclined to learning things like that if I had to, and I want to make a product. Anyway, can I add you on discord? Or add me boll#1632
Also the accountability group sounds like a great idea @Medellin

All right, I'll definitely do that then. Admittedly I've hardly worked out a day in my life, so this seems like very helpful advice. Thank you.

For me was a complete game changer.
After only a few months of weight lifting I could not recognize the person I was before starting it.

The results are simply ridiculous. The only condition is that you start right away and never miss a day for a few months at least. If you can successfully do this for 3 months you will become addicted to training and nothing will be able to keep you away from the gym. You will no longer need discipline to go and train. You will need discipline to prevent yourself from training too much.

But I reiterate: this will only happen if you get a solid 3 months of perfect discipline. Most people decide to quit after 2-4 weeks and they go back to square 1. Do you want to be like them? The decision is in your hands.

I was looking to set up an accountability group for some time already.

If it is not against forum TOS, I can share a link here and all of us who want to get in touch can connect.

I'm currently a co-founder of an IT company and working currently on various projects from web2 to web3 world.

Assuming it isn't against the TOS, I'd be interested as well. I'm a Chicago-based web developer and seo freelancer. Co-owned a few businesses as well.
