As i'm sure everyone is aware Google is looking to monetize youtube outside of advertising.
Subscription access to Youtube is coming (it's already in the dashboard to switch on but it looks like you have to lose all your subs to turn it on). It looks like it will be $10 a month to access Youtube ad free with offline viewing. All the channels the person is subscribed to will split that amount after YT's cut.
I just saw this article
http://www.theverge.com/2015/7/20/9006101/youtube-subscription-service-tv-network-partners
This little bit at the end jumped out and is news to me!
"...as we learned earlier, YouTube's creators are required to participate in the subscription offering or have their videos set to private."
So I did some research and found it mention in several other places - this article from April for example
http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/apr/09/youtube-monthly-subscription-remove-ads
"New paid tier will launch later in 2015, but channel owners who opt out will have to make their videos private"
So it sounds like if you don't take part all your videos will be hidden from YT's viewers!
Any one heard about this or read anymore about what the impact of this service will have?
