I've lived on email since decades before the internet existed, and I'm online every single day. I haunt several forums and I check Facebook often. And I do not "get" the attraction of Twitter. It looks to me like a huge timesink for very little return. Probably some people post worthwhile stuff, but I have the impression most of it is utter dreck. I've got too many things eating up my time already.

I think the opposite as you garyfritz. I like TW because the information is more "consumable" (it is only text) and short (140 characters) so I can scan everything rapidly. Also I tend to simplify my information streams (RSS, Tw, etc.) and on Twitter, following few people help me to focus my relationships with them (I know lot of the people I follow and got two clients thanks to the interactions).

Plus I created two lists with business (Entrepreneur Magazine, Forbes, etc.) and design (Smashing Magazine, Core 77, etc.) profiles, so I can read the latest thing and if something seems interesting I go to the link.

BTW, I also follow MJ :)

I follow Mark Cuban. Also, you should read "The Thank You Economy" by Gary Vaynerchuk, it's a good book on using social media including twitter for any person running a company.

Twitter is just a tool and can be used in may ways - inculding being a timesink. If you don't need it, that's cool, but you might want to learn how it is used before knocking it. Personally I am a habitual "headline scanner" and have always been that way. I can check my different twitter accounts for different topics and get a constant feed or drip of news throughout the day. I also use "pulse" on my phone for the same purpose, but I have my blog subscriptions fed to it through google reader. Same effect - I'm constantly consuming interesting and useful info throughout the day, all day, every day. If you check my (current, main) account @gabrielpark1970 you can see what I'm reading because I post the most interesting articles I read to my feed. Since twitter forces you to be concise I rarely post any comments myself - just the links I think others will find useful. There are many reasons to use twitter - but you might not have one.
