Hey all,

As there are a lot of American people and house flippers here, it makes sense to ask this question here...

A good friend of mine has cancer in her mouth and this type of cancer is hard to treat. In Knoxville is a specialist who is more likely to cure the cancer with less side effects. Today she heard the great news, her hospital bill will be paid by her insurance. So she will fly in 2 or 3 days, from the Netherlands to Knoxville, with her husband.

Here is the part with the question: Where would she be able to stay for the least amount of money? It needs to be quite comfortable, as she is very sick. The hotel/home bills won't be covered by the insurance, and they are not able to afford a LOT. To my understanding rents are high in America... She is looking for a simple home/appartment with a couch, bed, kitchen and maybe a tv. For her and her husband. They need to live there for at least 10 weeks during the treatment..

Thanks,

Chris

Bumping because of the urgency. Heard they fly out sunday morning.

The hospital does offer to find a home for them, so they won't be without. But if there is a local who'd advice against that, please tell! It is unclear what the costs of a house found by the hospital are.

I'm not familiar with Knoxville in particular, but I live in the neighboring state. For initial research, maybe they could check Zillow.com. The site is primarily used for home-sales, but it also lists rentals. Also, you could check Craigslist. Here in my city, you can find lots of places to rent on that site. If you don't find anything listed, you could always post an ad, something along the lines of "want to rent a furnished place for these dates in this location..."

I'm sure I don't have to mention that you should be careful of scams, etc. I've personally never had a problem with Zillow or Craigslist, but there are definitely some horror stories out there.

About the hospital finding a place, that might work out okay. It seems unlikely that they'd be out to scam you, but you never know. They might charge a premium or something.

If you find a place that interests you, you can then check it out on Google Earth/Google Maps (whatever it's called) and see what it looks like in the street view. Hopefully, this might be enough to get you started, at least as far as research. Good luck!

If nothing else, this initial research might at least offer an idea of how much a rental will cost. Good luck!

Thanks a lot ChickenHawk! Transferred a bit of rep for your help. Will look into Zillow, looks like there are lots of options there.
