It's a serious question.

A mentor of mine once told me "Your goal is to cold call people and get 100 no's". The goal is no longer yes.

You just keep trying stuff and see what works.

The reason I say this is because...

Failure, as most people label it is inevitable. People will hang up on you, you will lose money, things will go wrong.

But why do we get so angry or upset or fearful about it?

I was at a party with this guy who is really into pottery.

REALLY into pottery....he puts clay on a spinning wheel, and crafts it with his hands. He says its like zen for him.

Then he says, he may be spending 10 minutes creating the perfect pot out of clay, only to poke a hole in it with his fingers in the last 5 seconds before it's complete, and the whole thing comes tearing apart.

He has to start over again.

When this happens, he says he curses and screams and throws the clay against the wall...now quite how I would handle it...but we all have our different personalities.

So why am I writing about clay on an entrepreneur forum?

The reason is this...

This guy was attached to his outcome. He wanted that pot to be perfect, and his anger and emotions would take over if we get anything less than what we want.

We too have our own outcomes. We want to date THAT girl (or guy)....We want success with THIS marketing campaign. We want THIS product to be perfect. We start learning how to do something, yet we Fu^k it all up!

When things don't go as expected, we feel that frustration, that anger, that waste of time and money.

But those things are all normal.

It's all part of the learning curve.

So what if we can accept that there is beauty in the imperfection?

When that thing of clay comes falling down and tears apart...what if we enjoy the imperfection in that. We already can realize what we did wrong and how we can improve next time...so we keep getting better.

But we don't become so emotionally attached to the outcome.

Being attached to a specific outcome is something I've been working on lately. Mainly in relationships. I set up a story in my mind, and a picture of how I want things to be....where anything less than that story in my mind playing out perfectly as planned...is disappointing.

And a lot of times (All the time), that story of perfection in our mind is a lie.

What if I turn off that story of a fairytale world of the perfect relationship...or that fairytail of creating that PERFECT marketing campaign the first time...and go with the flow.

When something goes wrong, laugh it off and embrace it as a normal part of the learning experience.

This may sound counter-intuative to some, but take in mind we are always learning and improving.

But what if we keep the focus on helping our customers solve their problems, and realizing that just like learning how to built a pot in pottery....there is beauty in the imperfection and the learning curve of our business.

And hey, aren't all those obstacles we push through and failures we face the very things that makes the destination worth it?

Unless the journey is the destination...but I made a post about that already somewhere..so that's another topic.

Going forward, I am releasing all outcomes, focusing on helping others first....and living in the present moment and flowing with the normal course of events.

The dots line up, so trust in the process..
