HEADLINE: Washington Mutual Largest US Bank Failure Ever
Several weeks ago, I saw this coming by just paying attention to my environment.
I was driving home and I saw a sign on the roadside shoulder ... 3 month CD, 5% ... visit WAMU ahead!! Now, I own CD's and buy them frequently. 5%, 3 month CD is way above market and almost too-good-to-be-true. Well, it was and I knew immediately something was amiss.
However, what makes this a "Funny" is this: The roadside sign was a homemade sign on a posterboard and written in chicken scratch. I immediately pictured the story:
Bank Manager: [To Teller] Rosalie!! The bank is failing! We need deposits! Make a sign and put it on the road! 3 Month 5% CD!
Teller: Sign? Do we have any?
Bank Manager: No, go down to Safeway and buy some magic markers and a poster board, make it yourself, and stick it in the ground with a painter stick.
Teller: Uh ... OK.
