Hi All,
I'm an avid reader of internet forums but not many motivated me to share my life and thoughts. This one is an exception.
I just finished reading MJ's book and it was a wake up call for me. I was never a sidewalker and the slowlane always seemed to be the best life strategy for me. That was my belief growing up. I went to the best schools in my country, earned very good grades, I've an MBA from a top 5 US school, speak 5 languages and have been having quite of a successful international career. I've been working for the same company for the last 7 years (Top US pharma), mostly in sales and marketing leadership roles in Brazil, Europe and now Australia. However, this is still the slow lane. It's time to change.
I guess the most powerful argument from the book is that we exchange a finite resource (time) for a a widely available resource (money) in an unfair way. We supply corporations with our most valuable personal asset for a limited however abundant asset (money). Of course this may be no news for anyone, but what may be lacking to people, including me is the courage to challenge our limiting belief that a job is safe, which is NOT.
So what I'm doing about it?
I've decided to invest in my freedom starting from today. I believe I can deal with HOW to do it (manage my own business), I'm just reflecting on the WHAT. What is the need that I can address that will add value to people and they would be happy to reward me with their cash? Should I do it here in Australia or go to Brazil where I know the market, people, culture and country much better and the economy is booming. Australia is also booming, but with wife and kids, a J-O-B and no family / support network locally my fixed costs would be quite high to invest my time in my future freedom.
Plan now is to read, observe, research, identify scalable needs to address.
Will keep you posted.
All the best in the new year!
