What a great story.

Having just returned from Vegas and experiencing some hellacious cabbies, this is truly a "feel good" story.

http://blogs.marketwatch.com/themar...famous-poker-player-without-a-second-thought/

The last cab ride I took consisted of a driver who honked his horn 7 times in a 8 minute trip. The funny thing is, he honked his horn at everyone, and everything. The traffic light was red. He honked his horn. The car in front of us was driving only 10 mph over the limit. He honked his horn. He passed some curbside revelers. Honked his horn. As he entered the entry atrium at the NY NY casino, he honked his horn again, at seemingly, NOTHING.

I asked him ...

"Why did you just honk your horn??"

He said: "Did you see that guy crossing the street? He was FAT."

I could only shake my head.

Another Vegas cab driver story...

While exiting the airport, the cab in front of us dropped a duffel back from the trunk, a poorly packed job for the unfortunately travelers ahead of us. My cab driver immediately pulled to the side of the road, picked up the duffel bag, threw it into his trunk, and hopped back into the cab saying "I can't wait to see what's in there!"

I bet it was an Indian driver. Gotta love it!

I now have this intense desire to put 300k in a duffel bag and go to Vegas. One day :)

I'd have returned the money out of fear before anything else.. I mean seriously, how do you hide 300 grand when you make minimum wage (referring to the cabbie)? It would have been traced back to him eventually anyway.

Better to go out a hero and claim a reward/bonus, than trying to run with that kind of money.

I've had nothing but good cab driver experiences in Vegas. Guess I'm the lucky one.

Truthfully, so have I. However, when you've been in a hundred of so, there will be always a few that stand out and soil it for the rest. On my last trip, I took 3 cab rides. The first 2 guys were great. The last guy was the horn-honker.

Actually, this made me think of my last cab driver story. Ironically, it was the Vegas trip I took for work training, and instead of partying and gambling, I read TMF . Hmmm, that just dawned on me too... instead of living it up in Vegas, I was studying for my next venture...

Anyways. It was on the way to the airport, and the cabbie and I were chatting. He used to be a craps dealer at I think Stardust until they blew it up. Now I don't know much about craps, but a lot of people I know play it. So he was telling me about how he's seen people win and lose fortunes at those tables, especially at Caesar's Palace where they have a craps table with a $50,000 limit. I saw that table and didn't think much of it, but he told me how he's had friends win over a million dollars at that table, and lose just as much.

This whole time I'm thinking to myself, it might be fun to come back one day after I've made several millions and have a go at craps. Not $50,000, but still gamble and have fun.

But he ends his story with something like it's the only way he's known people to make some serious money. Not by working, or starting your own business, but gambling. It was eye opening, in that some people just don't see a path onto the Fastlane, and instead rely on chance.

It just really drove home the message from MJ's book, which almost made the entire trip seem poetic.
