This book looks interesting, covering various marketing channels that startups can use to grow.

It is also interesting to see what the authors are doing to market the book. They have some time limited special offers to encourage people to buy the book soon and buy in bulk : http://discuss.tractionbook.com/t/bonuses-for-buying-traction/215

When signing up for the bonuses, the email includes various calls to action at the bottom encouraging you to :
1. sign up for a free webinar
2. tweet the book
3. leave an amazon review

So far I have seen the book posted on Hacker News as well as an email list. No doubt its on Reddit and various other social news sites as well.

There is also a separate course based on the book :

Basically it has a discussion forum attached to each chapter. This site wasn't marketed with the book, but came from someones email list. Not quite sure how that fits into the overall strategy.
