My startup is called the Tire Safety Group (TSG). TSG allows you to take the identification numbers from your tires and instantly decode it to determine whether the tire has been recalled or is expired. It also gives you the complete manufacturing history for your tire and will reveal which company actually made it if the tire has been rebranded or is a “store brand.†You can also register a tire to your account and be notified in the future if one of your tires is recalled or about to expire.
I am asking that you please go to www.TireSafetyGroup.com and retrieve a Tire Facts Report for each of the tires on your vehicle. There is a (hopefully) easy to follow guide on the main page. I am looking for any and all feedback you are willing to offer. If you encounter an error, please tell me the last thing you did before receiving the error and what the error message was. If anything is confusing to you, please let me know so I can make it more clear.
Perhaps most importantly, please tell me what would make you more likely to WANT to use this website.
Additional Background:
On average, at least one person dies every day in the United States due to a preventable tire failure. Thousands more are injured or left stranded on the side of the road. In many instances, defective tires are the root cause of the wreck. Almost four million tires have been recalled due to known defects in the last ten years (completely excluding the time period of the Firestone recalls). Based on publicly available government filings, less than 900,000 of these recalled tires were verified as actually being removed from service.
Further exasperating these issues is that tires expire six years from the date of manufacture, regardless of their existing tread life or when purchased. Consumers are not advised of this fact and it is not written on the tire or otherwise conveyed in any manner. As a tire ages, it becomes substantially more susceptible to failure—particularly at highway speeds.
Everything on the website is, and will continue to be, completely free. The primary goal is not to make money, but to educate consumers, but I still have to approach this with the fast lane mentality to be successful. If you are interested in these issues and would like to learn more, I encourage you to download the free booklet from the website. It presents my case against the tire industry and what steps you can take to protect yourself. I am looking for any and all feedback that you may be willing to give, including opportunities that you are aware of that can help me promote the website once launched.
I sincerely value your input and cannot tell you how hard I have worked to get to this point. Your feedback will help make this a success and (hopefully) save lives as more people become aware of these issues.
