The video had me for a second. Get rid of your credit card debt? Stop buying useless stuff? Awesome! But then I saw the cold, hard, truth of the script staring me straight in the face. This guy is a professor at an Ivy League university, and look at how bleak everything is.
He does not look well or happy. He looks like he's just surviving, working for money to mostly squirrel away and the rest is devoted to soylent green, or whatever caloric substance this guy seems to be eating. I don't know how he truly feels, but my theory is that this is what a life without purpose and dominated by "mind-F*cked" frugality truly looks like. And just like the cake in the video, when you reach retirement you discover that the frosting has all dried out and that the inside is fake.
