Hello y'all,
My name is Joe and I am from DFW, TX. I was recommended "The Millionaire Fastlane " towards the end of last year. Have read/listened to all books except the most recent one. "Unscripted : Life, Liberty and The Pursuit of Entrepreneurship" was an eye opener and helped me see the ideas and narratives conveyed throughout the world.
I am current studying Clinical Mental Health Counseling through Northwestern University's Online Program. I am also a film/TV actor. I started my journey as a student wanting to use my clinical mental health counseling expertise to work within the TV and film industry as there is a massive need there that needs to be met. Around that time was when I came across you, MJ. As I did more research, I understand there is a huge need to address mental health in the following industries: military, entrepreneurs, medical professionals, educators, and more. Through your content MJ I realized that I could create a product that would benefit most (if not all) industries.
I have been learning through my school material, background as an actor, and research that our inner child is suppressed through many of the narratives and ideas conveyed by the world. Play Therapy is an intervention widely used toward the child and adolescent populations. However, there's not much out there regarding adults. This is the need I see that can help adults bring out their inner child. Christian Bale (my favorite actor) stated that "animals and children are the best actors. You can't compete with them because they don't give a shit about the consequences." They live life unapologetically, authentically, and being in the moment. It's sad how these aspects of our inner child are more likely to be suppressed due to one's family background, cultural, religious, societal, or even political expectations. You may think that this only applies to actors but it is not. In whatever field we are in, we can feel like we are not bringing our best selves. We can feel hesitant to allow ourselves to be. We can focus something on wanting validation and acceptance when these are ideas that have been conveyed by our society.
My mind is going in many different directions so I do find it difficult to decide in which direction to go. This product I have in mind wouldn't be directed towards one population. I see this as something that can be on a global scale. There are significant changes within the field of mental health, but I do believe there can be a greater change if there was a product that filled a need in all industries. Most people who get a career in mental health end up joining a group practice or starting their own individual practice. What I am not seeing is someone who is willing to make a business from a mental health model. From a mental health business model, it can change the way we see mental health depicted in media, film & TV, education, military, and medical fields.
Hollywood has been dying. We care more about rebooting movies and shows then about creating original ideas. Mental health is something that is suppressed within the entertainment field. The amazing, ongoing development within TX is that there may be a new law that gets passed that would result in more film & TV projects being shot here. I also see this as an opportunity to create a new form of Hollywood in a way that is drastically different than LA's.
As I said before, it's difficult to pinpoint how I would want to go about this as this is something that has not really been done before. I never got a degree in marketing or business, but I am eager to learn. Doing research and learning outside of classes.
Happy to be here! Thanks for having me.
