I think there can be nice cross over between courses and coaching. For example, if you know you're experiencing a pain point and seek a solution you might find a course that teaches you how to fix your problem. What I think complaments doing actual work or exercises built into the programme you've bought is to also have one-to-one or small group mentoring sessions with the course instructor. That way the learner has access to more value from the instructor as some of the material is prerecorded and delivered through the programme, while also being properly served by somebody who claims to have expertise.

This is the balance I look for in any type of online programme. It makes a better value for money service and ensures that both instructor and learner take it seriously as there's a level of accountability built in through the live coaching.
