Ever notice what happens when people come on this form with a "Big Bang" progress thread?
I AM ON FIRE!
Lets do this!
I am all in!
I am committed!
BOOM, BOOM (I'm going to go from zero to $1 million by year end) kind of thread.
What happens?
Posts pour in, every day....lots of action. Lots of excitement.
But give it a month maybe 3 month........
Then the lights go out and the thread goes dark. (There are exceptions of course but this is the general rule)
Now if the posts start out slow and methodical, there might be a chance...maybe just, maybe?
I have witnessed this in so many varying situations in life I almost rely on this as hard facts.
As science.
Here is a real world example;
I am looking for a tenant for a commercial office space right now.
A guy calls and wants to look at it RIGHT AWAY!
He comes over looks around and falls in love with the office space immediately.
And is ready to move on the deal NOW. Almost can't wait to do the paperwork.
He wants me to get moved out ASAP.
Will he come through? I doubt it.
My experience tells me he won't.
Why?
He will go home and by tomorrow, FEEL totally different about it.
Now guy #2. sets an appointment, comes and methodically looks around and asks all the right questions.
Ill bet on guy #2 every time.
Shall we deconstruct this human behavior
The faster/harder we start a venture= the more certain the failure (Ok I'm terrible at creating a formula but you get it.)
Not convinced.....analyze the progress threads on this forum.
Ok so what is the take away.
Process wins over massive action every time. In fact massive action may work agains success.
Slow and steady wins ALWAYS!
Nothing new here, MJ's been teaching this over and over.
But somehow we still believe we are the exception.
The one in a million, that somehow through sheer willpower we can pull it off.
Somehow miraculously turning a 5 year marathon into a 3 month sprint fueled by $1.500 worth of Starbucks go-juice.
We know that building a new skill, and turning that into a habit has a much better chance of succeeding if started slowly. And increasing it over time in a consistent and progressive way.
Zenhabits has a number of good articles on this.
It is how I built the habit of running, I started sooo small that I couldn't fail then I built up to where I'm running 4 mi daily.
The only question left to ask is this; I am wise enough to let time work for me or do I think I can outsmart time itself. and shortcut the system?
I am planning a methodical 2016 process...
What about you?
