Oy! (Hi),

Wanna keep public record and track my progress on a couple of goals. I've written them down already.

1) Have 6 pack abs within 6 months.
2) $100,000 from my business within 2 years. Maybe that's a low amount for some folks, but for me it feels "real".

Will keep record of things that are happening here. I keep a blog for more personal thoughts and reflections on the site, but wanted to create a singular thread that was more visible. Hope MJ is OK with it.

So on with it. Been having tremendous amounts of focus today. When I think of something that needs to get done, the process is easier now that the habit of organizing time has become more fluid. Wrote a little bit of something about it on my blog. But damn, focus feels really good. It's almost like a Zen state?

I liken it to sprinting - LOVE sprinting. There is this concentrated momentum where you feel unstoppable - the wind rushing through your ears, your body is a machine, blood rushing, go go go, speed, thrust - feels like you are going to take off. And the explosive afterflow - very sexy. Feels fantastic. I'll tell about a sprinting experience I had in another post.

But yeah, sprinting for me shares the same type of focus required for making business decisions.

Been working on a site that I have a conviction will do very well. It's based on a sorely needed solution to a common problem on popular platforms. Not gonna say what it is until launched, which will be several months.

But I am really enjoying the journey, which is probably why focusing is so easy now.

Temerity- welcome to the site! Lots of great discussions happening around here as you may already be aware of.

I worked in the fitness industry for 10 years and have been researching/experimenting/exercising for just as long. While i'll never claim to know everything, one thing for certain is that DIET is KING and EXERCISE is QUEEN.

"You can't out-train a bad diet"

6 months to get a 6-pack is a great goal but depends on several factors such as current bodyweight, body fat percentage, frequency of activity, duration of activity, etc.

80% of your results will come from a diet that fits YOUR personal macronutrient percentages. Focus most of your energy on what you eat.

Good luck on your challenges. Keep us posted. I'd be happy to help you (or anyone) out with your fitness goals if you ever had any questions.

I'm 190 lbs at 20% body fat. Working out 5-6 times per week, split 3 cardio, 3 weights. Eating very well. I've been doing this for about 2-3 weeks and am already slimmer. I'd say I've lost about 1% body fat, perhaps a little less.

Been doing a plyometric routine - jump training. Lots of squats, jumps, squat jumps, static sprints, lunges, burpees, jumping jacks and more. It's all interval training. It kicks my butt and I love it. Been making meeting a promise I made to "do one more" when I feel wiped.

Here are some pictures of my current state - taken a few minutes ago. I expect that the flab will be totally melted away within 6 months, end date May 4th, 2014.

As you can see, my definition is pretty unremarkable and I have some flab. However, I don't believe my goal of having abs within 6 months is unrealistic given the shape I am in. I'll post new progress pics every two weeks.

Business:

Got a LOT done today. Really focused and rifled through my To Do list. Still working on it. Still using Toggl to time everything I do. I'll post a snapshot of what activities I spend my time on. It's a pie chart and is quite revealing (at least to me, it is). Will work another hour or so before I hit the sack.

Whenever I work, I feel like this energy that is bursting out of my chest, wanting to get out and materialize this thing. Not easy to explain, but it is an aggressive urgency, like an ambitious longing, you could say. When channeling that, productivity results.

Here is a small shot from my business journal and planner. I write in it when ideas spring up, I have a module I want to create or am planning something:

Enjoy your night, folks!

Nice work uploading the pics. Like most men, it looks like you carry a majority of your BF in your stomach and chest. Mine awkwardly builds up in my lower back. Meh...

The plyo routine you've been doing is a great way to integrate both anaerobic and aerobic benefits. Google "Excess post-exercise Oxygen Consumption" (EPOC) to understand the benefits of this way of training.

What I would recommend (without having done a personalized analysis of your daily activity/nutrition habits) is to choose a specific number of carbs, proteins, and healthy fats to eat each and every day. These are your macronutrients (macros). Google examples of each food group and create a "diet" made up of the foods you like.

For example, I know that if I eat 200g protein, 300g carbs, and 50g healthy fats, all while lifting weights 4-5x a week, I'll maintain a bodyweight of 193-195lbs with roughly 10% bf. Some days I eat more chicken than steak or toss in an extra protein shake to save time from cooking meals, but at the end of the day I make sure I hit 200g of protein.

A general rule of thumb is to eat 1 gram of protein for every pound of body weight that you'd LIKE TO WEIGH. NOT what you weigh now. Several studies (which I don't feel like searching for now ) recommend men consume 50+/- grams of healthy fats (some saturated fats included) to maintain healthy testosterone levels, energy levels and plenty of other benefits. Carns are gonna be your main energy source so you don't want to get rid of them completely. At 190 lbs. I'd say shoot for 200g a day. If you notice you're losing weight and still have energy, stick to 200g. If you feel like a zombie, bump them up to 230, 250. You'll figure it out.

Don't forget, the more muscle you have on your body, the more your body works to use up stored bodyfat as energy. This essentially means that you're gonna be "burning bodyfat while you do nothing". You need to get the muscle first though so don't be afraid of lifting heavy weights.

Get to it!!

Thanks again, T14. Definitely going to take this advice to heart. I already keep a food journal so there is one peg knocked out.

I'm feeling a bit under the weather (maybe overworked or something) but I'll provide an update in the form of a realization.

I am going to have to find a niche and use it as a basis for starting my site. My original plan was to make price the attractive selling point, but this clearly won't be enough since sellers are willing to sell their things on the big platforms and pay monstrous listing fees to do so.

So I'm starting small... AND... creating a satellite site that relates to my niche which is all free, informative, fun, and appealing. The plan is to funnel more targeted traffic to the site. I've found a great domain name (will be revealed when launched!).

I'm feeling a bit feverish right now, sore throat. Think I'll give myself the gift of some much needed rest. Will see about posting updates tonight, but I feel they will be sparse since my body is telling me rest is the priority.

Determined

You'll be happy to know that any core exercise that works for men works equally as well for women and vice versa

I highly recommend Planks as they hit the anterior abdominal muscles. This one exercise provides the well rounded core strength you'll need to properly perform exercises like standing shoulder presses, squats, deadlifts, lunges, and any other exercise that utilizes the core for stabilization. It targets the upper and lower abs, obliques and lower back. A very well rounded exercise. Make sure your shoulders are over your elbows, elbows are shoulder width apart, toes on the floor, hips fully extended, and squeeze the cheeks tight.

If you can hold this position for 30 seconds, I recommend a simple ab routine such as 30 second plank, 30 second rest. Repeat 4x, rest a minute and then alternate to side plank for the same work/rest ratio. 30 sec left side, rest 30 sec, 30 sec right side, rest 30, switch. 8 sets total gives you 4 sets on each side.

Other good ones include leg lifts for lower abs, med ball slams for explosive core power, crunches, side planks, and side oblique extensions.

Youtube these and other "core exercises" to find out how to perform the correctly.

Don't forget, EVERYONE has abdominal muscles. We just don't see ours because of the layer of body fat that covers them. Focus on your diet to lose the body fat and you'll see those abs.

Good luck!

Temerity- let us know how your progress is coming along!

Temerity, what do you currently eat?

I'm no expert, but I've self-taught myself quite a bit about nutrition.

Do you eat a lot of wheat (whole wheat breads, pasta, pizza, etc)? Wheat products will build quite a bit of visceral fat around your organs, the main symptoms being man-boobs and a gut.

If there's one single thing you eliminate from your diet (which will most likely be the hardest), I recommend taking out wheat. You'll see your belly shrink down a lot faster, I can almost guarantee it.

I've seen friends of mine do this and lose 8-9lbs in a month, shrinking mostly from their gut and mid-section. I've been wheat-free for over a year, and even when I'm off the gym for a month I still stay shredded and have a ripped 6-pack.

No bread, pasta, buns, pizza, wraps (unless corn), croissants, bagels, muffins, and the list goes on. It's hard as F*** at first, but if you can do it results will definitely show.. and fast.

I've been following a somewhat intuitive and common sense type meal plan. Eat when hungry, sensibly, in balanced proportions. Breakfast will include scrambled eggs and fruit. Lunchtime I'll have a salad with chicken, dinner varies, but usually more chicken, vegetables and maybe a glass of wine.

For snacks, I'll have a protein shake, cheese, or small slices of meat. I've also found small portions of coconut are quite satisfying as a between-meal snack. Basically, I eat when hungry and never overfeed. It has definitely made a big difference over the past 2-3 weeks when combined with a regular cardio routine. I feel (and look) slimmer, even though you may not be able to tell from my recent pictures. Been keeping a food journal, can share that later when I'm more coherent (feeling sick now).

So I'm totally wiped. Came down with a small bug. Been blowing nose a lot, a sinus-y type thing going on. Feel a little feverish so this was a rest/recuperate day with a lessening of the typical work load. Permitted myself to do nothing and even goof off a little. I think I needed it.

I DID complete setting up my satellite website that will hopefully attract people to my main niche website later on down the road. It's great being able to set up a website in a couple of hours (part of what I do for a living now).

Also experienced some doubt as to whether this (my business) thing will fly. I read a few things on the forum which led to the doubt, but in retrospect, it was exactly what I needed to read in order to steer my business in the right direction. I also think the doubt, among other feelings, is a symptom of me being under the weather and not a reflection of what I truly believe. I'm certain I will be back to the normal work routine by tomorrow.

Feeling kind of ick now. Going to take a shower.

Feeling about the same. Sinus crap. However, not letting that get in the way of being productive today. That was yesterday.

I'm seeing that this whole journey to riches really is about the person you are, who you are becoming, and the person it takes to be rich. I see it takes a certain character and mentality, as cliche as that may sound. Desire is a big part of it. Doubt is the opposite of desire. I believe this is the real goal - mastering desire and doubt to the point where you can materialize a happy, abundant and peaceful life.

I hate platitudes and cliches, but sometimes they are true. So there is my cliche for the day. You're welcome.

Feeling just about 100% recovered. Allowed myself to goof off and let my brain swim while sick. But today was all about focused production. Hit a small milestone.

My website is nearly all assembled. It is merely a matter of polishing up some of the development logic notes, loose ends that need more functional adjustment and making sure nothing is missing or unnecessary. I feel like the goal of sending this off to the programmers is finally within a couple of week's reach! Exciting!

The steps after that will be 3-4 months high-level programming development time (not within the scope of my skill), during which I will sharpen my marketing skills and clean up the design of the website. Then, beta testing once they have completed programming. I may need volunteers when that time comes. I'll announce it here or on my soon-to-be-blog.

After that, the site will be live for public use and a marketing storm will commence.

I have a timetable on this all, but don't want to share it yet because it shifts due to the tenuous date of programming completion. I imagine it should all be ready mid-March of 2014 for testing.

I think folks here will like it, considering many people have voiced dismay at how things are run on certain websites. This offers an attractive solution. You'll see.

BTW, so I don't over-hype anything and get people throwing their laptops out windows in frustration that learning my idea doesn't rival throwing them into cages with naked Amazon women, I'll just say this isn't the most brilliant idea ever. I just I noticed a complaint online (voiced many times) and addressed it. My website could work, could fail (I doubt it), but it certainly addresses a widespread and very vocal need for people who use some popular websites.

Can I be any more cryptic?

This is insane.

I've been keeping 2 journals (sometimes a third) - one for food measurement and the other for things I'm learning from the 4 books I'm reading at once. I'm using toggl and timers to track time, employing a note app on my phone to remind myself of my goals and things to do, working hours and hours per day getting things done, yet at the end of the day, I feel like I haven't gotten through even 1/8th of my list. Insane.

I AM getting a lot done, I just want to get more accomplished before my eyes start drooping at the computer and the brain starts swimming into drowsy oblivion...

Had an interesting experience, and I believe it was in response to the loud roar of ambition in my belly and the urgent grasping at getting as much effectiveness I can into each second of the day. I meditate, or what you could call meditation. I'll close my eyes when I'm lying down and I just start talking to myself from a wiser, warmer, gently supportive place.

I'm not into god, religion, or anything spacey, but sometimes I get some intuitive things that really help me to see how to proceed. And some interesting things came in.

As I talked to myself, three aspects or notions came to mind. They were the three aspects of success. I know, anti-climactic, pedestrian, but not for me when I heard them in my mind. Curiously enough, the metaphor was baseball. I don't like watching sports, am not a big sports fan at all, but it worked for me as an illustration. The three aspects were

Step up to the plate.

Every pitch thrown to you is absolutely perfect.

You have no limitations.

I'll expand upon this in my next post.

Good to see the motivation and progress. I went through a similar process earlier this year. I let myself go to 245 lbs and decided that was my breaking point. Actually the fact I let myself go that far was ridiculous. Starting in February and over 5 months I lost 40 lbs using a combination of diet and exercise (cardio and weights). T14's statement of "Diet is King and Exercise is Queen" was spot on for me. I found when I tracked everything I ate on an APP and stuck to a calorie count, I progressed more or less linearly each week.
Yesterday was do what I want/goof off/cheat day. I really cheated, too. Been low carb all week and went CRAZY yesterday with sugar, cookies, pies, baby elephants, etc. Kind of glad to not be eating that crap now. Fresh salad, fruit, whole eggs... yum!

Business develops as usual. I believe I'm in the last parts of development before sending it off to programmers. Always takes longer than expected. It's an ambitious project.

Anyone wake up early? Like super-early? Like 4 or 5AM to get the day started?

Been doing this lately and I REALLY like it. There is a meditative quality about the day at the time - nobody is up, out and about clattering and wailing through the day, no harsh light illuminating all of the bumps, scrapes and bruises of reality... just me and a cuppa Joe, gliding into a cascading focus of will. Should I write poetry?

One thing I realized I'm doing unconsciously more so than consciously - I'm creating this website with the intent to have 100% control over it. I thought this through pretty deeply. If someone came by and offered me $16 million right now for the company wherein they would get 51% control of my work somehow, I would tell them to find a turkey and stuff it. Control is much more important to me than money, an intriguing sentiment I hadn't been aware of before.

Partly why I've been avoiding seeking out investors. They tend to want to dig their claws into the steering wheel.

No thanks, not here. This business can only be steered by my DNA.

Astounded

It's been little over a month to the day I decided to start a massively ambitious project - a website, and frankly, looking back, I'm a bit astounded at what has been accomplished. Hard to describe the magnitude of work and focus that has gone into this without sounding crazy, but a crazy amount of work got done. I'm literally in disbelief. It doesn't feel like only a month went by. Feels like 3. 😕

I've basically built a huge website - the entire skeleton of pages, back end settings, developer notes, logic, success and failure scenarios, equivalence notes, programming sequences, and a lot more. If I had to put it into palatable terms, I think I may have literally written a book in little over a month. :smxA:

It's funny. I'm kind of laughing here. I've surprised myself. I've never pulled something like this off in such a short period of time. I've fundamentally created a website with settings and functionality that rival the ones found in forum software like this one (they are extensive, comprehensive as MJ can attest to).

Let me give you an idea of what my site entails without giving away what it is all about:

1) It involves tiers, different levels of access, dozens of permissions. Not only did I design the pages for this on the front end (where the user looks at things) but I had to write out the structure, logic, function, and very site-specific settings on the back end for these tiers. There are 7 in all and they are not all identical. The amount of thought, detail and execution required for the end goal was somewhat unearthly.

Don't mean to sound high-fallutin'. I'm not bragging. I'm just now recognizing, after coming out of this work hypnosis, how much has gotten done. :smug2:

2) The website also involves single, bulk and monthly purchases. Combine this with #1 above and suddenly you have at least 27 new scenarios to contemplate. But these aren't the only attributes to the site. There are many, many more scenarios I've contemplated, written upon, edited, and re-written to make sense for the users and programmers. There are easily 400+ scenarios I've had to contemplate, and I think that is being conservative.

Maybe MJ has some experience with this. My impression from TFLM book is you programmed things for that limo company you created. You know about equivalence, structuring, and the exponential logic that spawns from adding new features to a program. It's overwhelming at points, thinking of all of the directions it could go, and what happens when two scenarios overlap or conflict.

Anyway... back to what else was required (and executed this month)... :coffee:

3) Plugging in what goes where on the site. Knowing WHERE the information goes on the page is paramount for users and programmers.

4) Creating the pages themselves - with developer notes all over the place, where the programmers put the needed database information, AND how the pages look without all of the notes and information all over the place. Had to create 2 versions of the whole website, basically.

I could list 8 more things, but I think this gives you an idea of what is possible to create within a short span of only 1 month.

Deep focus, total commitment and a fire in your belly will do this. It's what gets me up early and keeps me up late writing about it on forums like these. The total desire for freedom drives me.

I talk to myself a lot. Who doesn't? I often joke that everybody talks to themselves, some people just do it out loud. :great:

Anyway, I talk to myself. You could call them self-mentoring talks. Today, I told myself that if I could accomplish creating an entire website (which is ready to be sent off to programmers to be programmed) of this magnitude in only one month, what can I accomplish in a year or two?

I have a very strong feeling the fastlane isn't in my future, it is here now. :fastlane:

So I submitted my work to programming company I'm using to get this thing going and the head manager is astounded and excited by what I created. "Awesome", "incredible" "totally cool" were some of the words he used once I unveiled it all to him.

The only minor setback iiiiiiis... you guessed it - cost. He said I have two options - to strip down the site to the absolute bare minimum functions needed to get people going to the site and using it effectively, or... cough up around $20K to produce the site as I have it, all bells and whistles included.

Sigh... such is the journey of a budding netpreneur. Will have to go with the former choice and iterate from there.

Why, oh why can't someone else do this all for me effortlessly so I can just have instant riches?

(I'm kidding about that last part. You may put band-aids on your eyes now).

By the way, I should add - this is a milestone for in the bigger context. The site is finished on the front-end. Just needs all of that complex and unique programming on the back end.

I know what I'll do! I'll hire MJ! He's a brilliant programmer and made millions from it... sort of? I'll just hire him at the low, low rate of $2K-3K per hour.

Just talked to the project manager for my... project. Broke down the costs. Will cost $5,000+ to create the website. While I'd prefer to spend less, it's a mandatory step. Development will take about 7 weeks from start to finish.

Also, will post progress pics of my fitness routine. I don't see much difference, but I do feel slimmer in the waist area. Pics coming this week.

Glad to see your ambition continues to rise. Keep it up. +++

Just put in the first in a small series of downpayments for programming services for my website! Goals are crystallizing! Site should be done by mid-April at latest. Not much for me to do in the meantime except learn marketing and how to approach this in a way that gets people's attention uniquely, since I'll be competing with some of the big guys out there.

Nonetheless, if I could build a complicated, logic-heavy site in just one month as I have, I wonder what will happen once I get the groove on marketing within 3 months. Very exciting!

By the way, I actually went overboard on developing the site. What I wanted and what I could afford at this time weren't a match. Had to scale back a LOT of features for the time being. So the site really took only 2 weeks to conceive and create, if we are being literal. More on this later once the site goes into beta testing!

Looks like I'm on track to exceeding my initial goal of making $50,000 my first year in business. Actually, I'm going to make a lot more than that (about double). But it has come about in ways I didn't really expect and aren't really 100% related to my business.

I'd love to brag about how I started my business and it has earned all of this money, but it's really the activities around the business (skills as a programmer, web developer and similar) that has gotten me to earn more than I have ever earned before. Feels kind of good. I like getting monthly $4,000+ checks from my clients. But I'm still trading time for money.

Come April, when the website is fully programmed and ready for beta testing, I will be able to funnel the good money I'm making now into marketing, tweaking and other things business related. Automation and full control is the goal.

Funny. Just 3 short years ago, I was washing laundry in my kitchen sink, couldn't afford to take the bus to the supermarket to buy an 88 cent bottle of soda for dinner and was 3 months behind on my rent. Low, low point in my life. If you've ever had financial woes, I empathize with you. Such a dark, dismal, frustrating, awful place. Compound that with the depression I was feeling at the time... was a very unpretty hell to live in.

I'm noticing a consciousness shift. Things I used to worry about spending money on aren't quite so taxing on the "what if I can't afford that" section of my brain. Most piddly little things I buy, e.g. sandwiches, groceries, etc, I don't think about. I want to get it to the point where buying an Aston Martin is like shelling out a few nickels for some grapes. Think that's the goal for most everyone here.

It feels real, tangible, because I've had real, tangible results - even if they are not truly related to my business. Making good money feels really good. It does make a difference in your level of happiness.
