And being a lawyer does not make you happy or successful or a badass despite what Hollywood tries to sell you. It just makes you miserable.
And so my miserable existence began. Here I am, 4 years into law practice with not a damn thing to show for it except a heaping pile of debt, an even bigger pile of stress, and an all around miserable existence. They tried selling me the American dream through the promise of success by having a job with high intrinsic value. And boy did I eat that shit sandwich up.
Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of valuable skills taught in law school, the best of them being how to “think critically” about problems, or “think like a lawyer.” But the practice of law is a giant cluster F*ck of stress, trying to constantly calm down your own clients, and then letting down their unrealistic expectations because they “paid you to fix the problem.” The issue is that in litigation, there is almost always a winner and a loser. The winners don’t appreciate you, because that’s what they paid you for. The losers curse you, because of course it could never be their bad decisions that caused them to lose their case. Nope, it was definitely the lawyers fault.
A few months ago I was rummaging through self-help podcasts for men and caught an interview with MJ regarding his Unscripted book. I liked his philosophies on life and business so I figured what the hell, and I downloaded Millionaire Fastlane on audible which I quickly got through due to my 45 minute commute to work in my miserable rat race existence. Now I’m addicted like a whore in a crack house. This stuff is life changing.
I’m not sure what the future will entail for my unscripted existence but it sure as hell will be by my terms this time. I’m done doing what society tells me to do. Let’s go on this journey together.
